The COO will play a pivotal role in ensuring our organization achieves its full potential while honoring the unique cultural values and aspirations of our community.Key Responsibilities : Strategic Vision : Partner with Chief and Council to shape and execute the strategic direction of Nak’azdli Whut’en, ensuring alignment with our mission, values, and long-term goals.Community-Focused Leadership : Advocate for and advance initiatives that enhance the well-being, growth, and self-determination of the Nak’azdli Whut’en community.Cultural Understanding : Operate with a deep respect for and understanding of the cultural heritage, traditions, and values of Nak’azdli Whut’en, incorporating these principles into decision-making and leadership practices.Team Supervision : Lead and support a high-performing team, including the Directors of Community Services and Health, Education, and Housing, as well as the CFO, ensuring collaboration, accountability, and measurable outcomes.Innovation and Transformation : Lead modernization efforts, identify opportunities for growth, and champion innovative solutions to meet evolving community and organizational needs.Executive Collaboration : Engage with departmental leaders to foster cross-functional synergy, ensure accountability, and drive measurable outcomes.Financial Stewardship : Oversee the financial health of the organization by guiding budgeting, resource allocation, and securing diverse funding streams to achieve sustainable growth.Governance and Accountability : Act as a trusted advisor to Chief and Council, providing high-level insights and transparent reporting on organizational progress, challenges, and opportunities.Talent Development : Empower and inspire staff by fostering professional growth, cultivating leadership, and promoting a culture of excellence, integrity, and inclusivity.External Relations : Strengthen partnerships with government agencies, stakeholders, and external organizations to secure opportunities and advance the interests of Nak’azdli Whut’en.Qualifications : A degree in Business Administration, Finance, or related field (MBA or professional designation such as CPA / CMA preferred).Proven experience in senior leadership roles, ideally within Indigenous organizations or communities, with a strong understanding of cultural, social, and political contexts.Deep knowledge of federal, provincial, and Indigenous legislation, including the Indian Act, Canada Labour Code, and relevant governance frameworks.Exceptional strategic planning, financial acumen, and governance expertise, with a track record of achieving impactful outcomes.Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders effectively.Commitment to fostering a values-driven, respectful, and inclusive organizational culture.Knowledge of the Dakelh history, language, and culture is an asset.Application InstructionsNak’azdli Whut’en offers the opportunity to lead with purpose and create meaningful change for our community.
