We are looking for a Development Planner to support our business growth in Toronto. The Development Planner will assist in the advancement and implementation of the planning and development project portfolio.
This role involves collaboration with internal project managers and land development team, external consultants (planning, engineering, environmental, transportation, etc.
local government officials, project partners, and the public, to ensure that development projects are moving forward in an efficient and well-planned manner and meet the needs of the community and Province.
This position will primarily focus on development processes including review and analysis, project co-ordination, and municipal approvals.

How you will contribute :
- Assisting projects through the development process from site acquisition to development concept, to municipal approvals and permitting.
- Assisting in managing a team of external professional consultants such as architects, engineers, planners, legal and general contractors supporting the design and approval process.
- Providing critical review of development application materials such as plans, reports, and studies.
- Analysis of existing and proposed zoning and policy frameworks to assess current and future development potential.
- Prepare agendas, maintain minutes, and distribute takeaways / follow-ups for all internal and external planning project meetings.
- Draft reports, memos, and correspondence related to planning projects.
- Maintain project files and records, including running list of external consultants, timelines for development projects, and milestones in the approval processes.
- Review and preparation of materials for meetings and / or hearings before City Councils, community members, the Ontario Land Tribunal, the Committee of Adjustment, TLAB, and others.
- Understanding of all stakeholder interests while keeping the success of the projects top of mind.
- Participate in public meetings and community outreach activities to gather input and provide information on planning projects.
- Assist in building and managing project budgets and forecasts.
- Evaluate real estate market data, economic and demographic information.
What you bring to the table :
- Bachelor's or post-graduate degree in Urban Planning, Real Estate, Geography, Urban Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in development planning in either the private or public sector.
- High attention to detail and strong work ethic.
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Takes initiative and able to work both independently and in a collaborative environment.
- Great organizational skills and ability to assist in many projects that are all high priority and deadline focused.
- An understanding of the TLAB, OLT and other tribunals, and their processes.
- Strong project management skills, including the coordination of multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Adobe Suite and the ability to learn and master new applications.
- Desire to learn and grow professionally.
- Results driven, energetic, creative, and hardworking.
This is not a hybrid or remote position. The successful candidate will be working at our Leslie Street Head Office, Mon to Fri 900am to 530pm.
