Position : IT Systems Administrator

Department : Information Technology

Reports to : Senior Manager, IT Infrastructure

POSITION SUMMARY :

The IT Systems Administrator is focused on technology infrastructure management relating to server administration, including Active Directory administration, storage, VOIP, and backup support, with the aim of providing a stable environment and maximizing availability of technology relating to systems infrastructure.

This role will work with other IT Infrastructure team members to respond to systems and server related escalations, requests, and projects.

The incumbent will also adopt and foster a team approach to problem-solving, while interfacing with internal customers and external vendors to ensure efficient delivery of infrastructure services.

This role will focus on :

  • Overseeing system services and servers at the main data center and all locations
  • Maintaining Backup topology and Disaster Recovery process for server infrastructure
  • Implementing and supporting maintenance and upgrades of system infrastructure such as Active Directory, Windows Server, SAN technologies, VOIP telephony, SQL, VMWare, Hyper-V, and cloud technology
  • Administering and supporting Microsoft O365 services
  • Performing regular system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and processes for service level integrity / performance
  • Identifying and resolving production capacity, contention, resource, and application deficiencies
  • Developing and maintaining systems documentation
  • Assisting in evaluation and selection of systems hardware and software
  • Assisting in the development of security recommendations and manage security information priorities
  • Developing and participating in actions to maintain and improve risk management and compliance programs
  • Utilizing internal work order system, maintaining documentation, and participating in inventory control
  • Acting as tier 2 technical support to Service Desk
  • Collaboratively liaising with other team members, departments, and appropriate vendors, following issues through to resolution
  • Troubleshooting infrastructure hardware and software issues in a high pressure environment
  • Working off hours in a 24x7 production support environment as required

YOU HAVE :

  • University degree or diploma in a technology-related field
  • At least three years of experience in a System Administrator role
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server environment
  • Proactive and innovative mindset in identifying ways in which technology can support business needs
  • Excellent research, consulting, analytical and probing skills (i.e., know how to ask the right questions to determine and meet needs)
  • Ability to work extended non-business hours and some travel as required
  • Self-motivation and accountability for ensuring service levels are achieved / exceeded
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Team player attitude with excellent service and problem resolution skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain a balance of priorities
  • This is an onsite role at our office in downtown Vancouver

YOU MAY ALSO HAVE :

  • Experience with Microsoft Core Services (Active Directory, Group Policy, DHCP, DNS, File and Print servers, PowerShell)
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or equivalent
  • Advanced knowledge with Exchange and Office 365 architectures
  • Advanced Knowledge of virtualization (VMware)
  • Experience with Microsoft Server, VMWare, SQL, backup and recovery software, monitoring tools
