Civil / CAD Technologist (Landfill Design)

Wastech Services, a subsidiary of the Belkorp Group of Companies, is a BC-based company. We operate the Campbell Hill Landfill in Cache Creek, BC and are also responsible for the post closure care of the Cache Creek Landfill, also located in Cache Creek, BC.

Wastech Services’ offices are located in Kamloops, BC and Burnaby, BC.

We are seeking a skilled junior or intermediate level staff member to join our team in our Burnaby, BC office as a Civil / CAD Technologist.

The primary responsibility of this role will be to assist in the drafting and design of future stages of the landfill. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of landfill expansion plans, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil3D, and land surveying is essential for this role, as is being willing to travel to our facilities in Cache Creek regularly and take on additional operational tasks to support our growing team when needed.

Responsibilities

• Use AutoCAD and Civil3D software to assist in the drafting and design of future stages of the landfill, including site plans, profiles, cross-sections, grading plans, and construction details.
• Conduct land surveys and collect accurate and precise data to support the drafting and design process.
• Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and training materials for surveying equipment including drone use (training on our equipment will be provided to the successful candidate).
• Collaborate with the engineering team and civil engineering consultant to develop landfill expansion plans and design alternatives.
• Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and other technical documents.
• Assist in the preparation of work authorizations, cost estimates, and construction schedules.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to coordinate project activities and deliverables.
• Conduct site visits and inspections in Cache Creek, BC regularly to monitor construction progress and address any design-related issues.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Previous co-op (internship) and / or working experience in a similar capacity is required.
• 2+ recent years of experience working with AutoCAD software.
• Working knowledge and proficiency in Civil3D software for 3D modeling, site design, and earthwork calculations.
• Working knowledge in land surveying techniques and equipment, such as GPS, Total Station, and / or other conventional survey equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce accurate drawings and models.
• Familiarity with applicable regulations and standards related to landfill design and environmental protection is an asset.
• Survey drone experience is an asset.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite (e.g., Excel, Outlook, Word)
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal team members and external consultants.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work to meet project deadlines.
• Hold a valid Class 5 driver's license.
• Comfortable conducting site visits and inspections in all weather conditions.

Other Information

• Salary range : $70k to $85k, depending on qualifications and experience.
