About the Role
The Financial Reporting and Lender Relations team is looking for a student to work closely with the team for the Winter term.
The student will be part of a collaborative team of accounting professionals working closely together in the preparation of financial statement note disclosures under both IFRS and US GAAP.
The student will also participate in the preparation of financial information for Canadian and US Government Reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
- Prepare quarterly, and annual audited financial statements with precision and timeliness
- Conduct in-depth analysis of financial data to generate comprehensive reports for lenders, tax-equity and joint-venture partners, and internal stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements in all financial reporting activities
- Implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Coordinate and facilitate the annual external audit and internal controls over financing reporting processes, including preparing audit schedules, providing requested documentation, and addressing auditor inquiries
Lender Relations
- Build and nurture positive relationships with lenders and tax-equity and joint-venture partners to foster collaboration and trust
- Serve as the primary point of contact for lender, and tax-equity and joint-venture partners inquiries and requests, providing timely and accurate responses
- Monitor and communicate financial performance metrics to lenders, and tax-equity and joint-venture partners demonstrating accountability and transparency
- Assist our Capital Markets teams with discussions and negotiations with lenders, and tax-equity and joint-venture partners to address any financial concerns or issue
Compliance and Risk Management
- Review and analyze financing and partnership agreements and other financial contracts to identify reporting obligations and ensure compliance
- Monitor ongoing compliance with financing and partnership agreements, partnership agreements, and tax equity arrangements to mitigate risks
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard financial integrity
Process Improvement
- Continuously evaluate and enhance financial reporting processes to streamline operations and improve efficiency
- Identify opportunities for automation and technology adoption to optimize workflows and reduce manual efforts
- Proactively address challenges and implement solutions to enhance the accuracy and reliability of financial reporting
Support Functions
- Provide ad hoc support to other departments within the organization, particularly in Capital Market and M&A activities and credit rating reviews
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and synergy in financial reporting and lender, and tax-equity and joint-venture partners relations efforts
Knowledge & Skills Required
- Currently enrolled in an accredited post-secondary program;
- Completed first year university studies in Commerce / Business Administration (preferably 3rd or 4th year with a concentration in Accounting).
- Financial / Accounting knowledge and preferably some familiarity in IFRS;
- Intermediate knowledge of Excel;
- Ability to think outside the box , to work in a dynamic, complex, fast paced environment, to adapt quickly and to manage changing priorities;
- Ability to work independently, solve problems and use sound judgment;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Knowledge of consolidation systems such as Cognos Controller and OneStream is considered an asset;
- Interest in pursuing a professional accounting designation is considered an asset.
Note : Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Brookfield’s identity. This position requires the employee to be on-site for a minimum of 4 days to perform most effectively.
