Job Description
At General Dynamics Mission System-Canada, we are passionate about our technology and the products we deliver. We currently have a new opportunity for a Business Development Manager to join our team in growing our portfolio and to broaden our capabilities, focused primarily in US markets.
Working within our Land & Joint Business Area in Advanced Vetronics Systems, you will develop business cases and the strategy for our suite of products in high definition displays, intelligent fire control, embedded computing, networking, power and communication.
Success in this role is being able to maintain very good visibility into the sales process in order to turn qualified opportunities in to proposals that win! You will focus on maintaining frequent contact with existing, new, and potential customers and engage industry partners and networks for opportunities to collaborate on ventures.
This opportunity will be focused on :
- Building the time-line, factoring in customer’s budget; developing strategic importance / relevance to GDMS-C and Win themes and strategies
- Meeting with core and new customer base for Land and Joint Solutions in order to provide status reports on company activities, to make presentations on company experience and capabilities, and to identify new business opportunities, thereby adding to the company’s business forecast.
- In addition to Land and Joint Business area focus and interests, the overall interests of General Dynamics Mission Systems Canada are to be presented to customers
- Building and maintaining a strong network with industry colleagues, some of which may be considered competitors, as well as potential collaboration partners / subcontractors for business opportunities.
- Supporting Proposal Managers on opportunities and holding Pursuit Decisions, Bid / No Bid and Formal Management Review Meetings in accordance with the company’s Bid and proposal development procedures, following-up with customers during proposal process to ensure that proposals are favorably received and reviewed
- Interfacing with all groups within the company to establish a smooth flow of information related to all projects and to seek advice from others
- Providing regular project updates for Business Development Meetings and supporting strategic planning sessions;
- Participating in the development, planning, and implementation of marketing and sales programs such as trade shows, press releases, brochures, data sheets, white papers, briefings, etc.
- Planning and attending trade shows and conferences in order to promote the company and its capabilities
Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years combined experience in a Defence related industrial sector (technical, project or proposal management, or marketing / business development)
- Knowledge of international sales and procurement, with a focus on US defense market
- Passion to win new business and creative thinker who is resourceful and always striving to find a way to get it done
- A collaborative team player who can build consensus by pulling multi-disciplinary teams together and aligning them around common goals and objectives as they relate to growth
- Familiarity of government policies and OEM suppliers as related to Defence procurement
- Proposal development experience would be ideal
- Be able to work flexible hours and be willing to travel, primarily to the United States
- Prefer Engineering Degree and MBA desirable however an acceptable level of engineering and business experience will be considered
- Ideally an understanding of Ground Combat platforms, Communication and Vehicle Electronics.
- Business Development and Capture Management process, Proposal experience also highly valued
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
