Nasittuq provides Operation & Maintenance services for the North Warning System (NWS). The NWS is a joint Canada and United States early-warning radar system with 47 sites located in Northern Canada;
a Control Centre and Support Centre located in North Bay, ON and a Contract Management Office located in Ottawa, ON.
Summary :
Reporting to the NWSCC Facilities Supervisor, the NWSCC Facilities Crew Technician is responsible for monitoring the status of and remotely controlling NWS site equipment including but not limited to, power generation, electrical distribution, diesel engine systems, HVAC Systems, water & sewage systems, intrusion alarms, fire alarm / suppression systems, helicopter monitor and SCADA systems in a 7x24 shift environment.
Please note : This is a 1 year term opportunity, with potential for full time permanent employment at the end of the term.
Responsibilities :
- Assist in the maintenance of NWS systems, including but not limited to, power generation, diesel engines, electrical distribution, HVAC Systems, water & sewage systems, intrusion alarms, fire alarm / suppression systems.
- Monitor the status of and remotely control NWS site equipment, monitor the quality of data and signals, analyze and correct system faults, change equipment parameters and configurations.
- Review corrective maintenance work requests for priority, work estimation and feasibility.
- Review work orders upon completion
- Liaise with 22 Wing System Maintenance (SM) and request authorization for system downtime, verify operational status of NWS equipment after downtime, enter data and ensure the accuracy of Equipment Status Reports.
- Inform 22 Wing SM, NWSO and Nasittuq personnel of site emergencies / outages / incidents.
- Respond to NWSO or 22 Wing on requests for clarification on the status of NWS operations and maintenance activities.
Secondary Duties :
- Providing guidance and training to customer personnel / FMTs in establishing operation, maintenance, and inspection procedures and techniques.
- Analyzing equipment failures to determine cause and recommending corrective action
- Assisting in effecting design changes to improve equipment efficiency and / or reducing cost of operation.
- Monitoring and tracking diesel engine performance, electrical systems, fire systems, HVAC systems.
- Tracking diesel engine overhauls, testing and evaluation of performance
- Providing feedback on preventive maintenance programs.
- Participating in installation planning phase, keeping performance and maintenance records on equipment.
- Performing the duties of a Facilities Maintenance Technician.
- Assisting in the maintenance of the Site libraries.
- Conducting environmental, safety, security and quality checks and audits, general housekeeping in support of a healthy and safe workplace environment and taking proactive and corrective measures in these areas.
- Performs other duties as assigned which are transient in nature.
Qualifications : Education :
Education :
Completion of postsecondary program in an electromechanical systems or Electrical (309A) or Mechanical (310T-truck / coach 310S automotive service) trades certifications or CF military equivalent.
Experience :
A minimum of five years of experience on the job training working in a commercial or industrial setting.
Knowledge of :
- Strong knowledge of building electrical, engine diagnostic, mechanical, HVAC and building structural systems, with ability to read and interpret related drawings and manuals.
- Proficiency in the use of commercial test equipment and tools used in troubleshooting and repair of Facilities systems.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Experience :
- Proven communication, analytical, organizational, and decision making skills
- Ability to work efficiently and independently
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Maximo.
- Customer service and detail oriented.
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
- Must be able to meet shift work requirements. Department functions 7 days per week, 24 hours per day.
- Must already hold a Level II (Secret) Clearance or be eligible to obtain one. Approval of security clearance by the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate is a condition of employment
