Reporting to the AVP and Chief Human Resources and Facilities Officer, and serving as an advisor to senior administration, the Director, Employee Relations, Health and Wellness plays a pivotal role in creating a culture of innovation and collaboration at Sheridan by fostering strong employee and labour relations, and oversight of health and wellness programs that enhance the well-being and safety of the Sheridan community.

By leading teams of HR specialists and partnering with union representatives, the Director ensures that workplace practices are both equitable and adaptable to the evolving needs of employees and the institution.

Their work is integral to promoting a healthy, inclusive, and engaging environment where collaboration thrives in support of Sheridan’s strategic goals.

This role leads a team that plays a primary role in creating a vibrant and sustainable workplace culture, driving creativity and key business outcomes for the institution.

The ideal candidate holds a degree or diploma in a related field and brings a wealth of expertise in navigating complex workplace dynamics, preferably in the public sector.

They possess a strong foundation in labour contracts, legislation, and current trends in labour / management issues, demonstrating the ability to balance workplace equity, management rights, and the employee experience.

Their leadership is marked by expertise in investigations, strategic advisory, coaching, and an ability to mobilize action and engage teams.

Additionally, they have extensive experience in negotiations, mediation, dispute resolution, and developing inclusive policies, alongside a proven track record in strategic planning, project management, and business acumen, including budgeting and complex report writing.

Certified HR Professional or Leader designation (CHRL or CHRP) will be considered a strong asset.
