Terms : 12-month contract (includes benefits and pension)
Salary : Commensurate with experience
Location : Ottawa (Hybrid Work Model)
About the Role :
The QA Tester is a member of HSO’s Digital House. The Digital House is a dynamic, cross-functional team comprised of Software Engineers, QA Engineers, and Product Managers who work closely with internal and external parties to build a new digital experience for our users.
The skilled QA Tester, reporting into the Senior QA Manager, will leverage their experience with Agile / Scrum to enable stable, sustainable technology operations and delivery of high value strategic technical projects.
Your passion for testing means you exhibit exceptional testing skills, attentional to detail, a passion for customer advocacy and a high degree of adaptability and creativity.
You have a track record of designing and executing manual tests. You’re not afraid to take initiative and ownership and you make sure to stay on top of the latest and greatest in technology.
Let’s break it down. Your responsibilities include :
- Work closely with the QA team, developers, and product owners to understand user scenarios, to transform high-level requirements into optimized manual tests.
- With a passion for testing, you advocate for, and contribute to, achieving the highest possible level of testing in support of delivering quality software.
- Lead manual test efforts using best practices.
- Analyze test results and submit quality defect reports, when required provide support to development engineers to aid in defect resolution.
- Develop and execute manual test cases.
- Take ownership of maintaining the suite of tests.
- Finding innovative solutions to any problems that may arise, including working with developers to reproduce issues / defects.
- Excellent communication skills : the ability to clearly explain complex technical issues to colleagues and stakeholders, with varying levels of technical knowledge.
You have a unique history. Does it include the education and experience listed below?
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- Background in software quality assurance, with 3+ years experience as a QA Tester.
- Experience in building manual tests for web apps.
- Proven ability to take user requirements and build a robust suite of manual tests.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in writing high quality maintainable tests.
- Experience working on Software and / or IT project(s) in a team environment.
- Experience working within the Azure DevOps environment.
- Experience in using a test case repository and defect management tool.
- Experience building a testing environment, knowledge of virtualization, cloud, and container technologies.

- Ability to communicate with external / internal business and technical audiences.

- Knowledge and experience with Agile methodologies.
- A willingness and ability to be coachable, to learn and implement best practices.
- Have experience working with clients / organizations in the health-care sector.
- You have an entrepreneurial spirit and can work well either independently or in a cross disciplinary team, remote or co-located.
