Scrum Master Intro
We are seeking an experienced Scrum Master for an intermediate-level position located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This is a hybrid role that will require both remote and occasional in-person work.
The initial contract is for one year, with the possibility of extending up to an additional 24 months under the same terms and conditions.
The Scrum Master will be responsible for leading and mentoring cross-functional teams in agile principles and facilitating key agile ceremonies across two to three projects.
Scrum Master Job Details
The Scrum Master will work full-time, with a 7.25-hour workday, and may be required to work up to a maximum of 1,960 hours per term.
The role involves leading and mentoring teams in agile methodologies, facilitating agile ceremonies, and ensuring effective delivery of services and project deliverables.
Key responsibilities include :
- Leading and mentoring cross-functional teams in agile principles, policies, and procedures.
- Facilitating key agile ceremonies such as planning sessions, stand-ups, sprint reviews, product demos, retrospectives, and refinement sessions.
- Coaching the team on agile methodologies and promoting successful achievement of sprint goals.
- Guiding the product owner on reporting, release planning, and road-mapping.
- Maintaining delivery metrics and reporting on product-level plans, progress, and quality assurance.
- Participating in digital service delivery activities such as user research and usability testing.
The Scrum Master will primarily work remotely but may be required to attend meetings or work sessions in Edmonton with reasonable notice.
Some travel within Alberta may be required for field research and user interviews.
Scrum Master Mandatory Skills
- Active professional Scrum Master certification (please attach certificate).
- Knowledge of various software development methodologies (agile, waterfall, scrum, Kanban, etc.).
- Experience delivering training sessions via web-based interactive technology (e.g., Microsoft Teams).
- Experience leading and facilitating key agile ceremonies, including planning sessions, stand-ups, product demonstrations, and retrospectives.
- Experience leading and mentoring teams in agile principles, policies, and procedures.
- Experience planning work that aligns with product owner priorities (sprint planning and backlog planning).
- Experience with Agile methodology.
- Experience with software development processes and associated best practices, methods, standards, tools, and policies.
- Experience working on agile software development and modern, service design-based product delivery for large organizations or complex challenges at scale.
Scrum Master Desired Skills
- Directly related experience in web service or development.
- Experience developing and maintaining positive stakeholder relationships across the organization, including executive level.
- Experience working in or for the public sector.
- Experience working with teams that apply UX design, service design, design thinking, or human-centered design approaches.
Scrum Master Start Date
The position is expected to start as soon as possible.
Scrum Master Location
The position is located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, with a hybrid work arrangement. Most work will be conducted remotely, but occasional in-person meetings and sessions in Edmonton may be required.
Some travel within Alberta may also be necessary for field research and user interviews.
