The Manager, Wellness & Ability Management is accountable for providing expertise and ensuring alignment across all Seaspan business units on occupational and non-occupational injury management, workers' compensation matters, injury and illness prevention and health promotion.

The Manager provides expertise and leadership in the development, implementation and administration of progressive policies and programs designed to improve and promote recovery from injury and illness, including stay at work programs, return to work procedures, graduated return to work programs, and the oversight and administration of health-related accommodation requests.

The Manager takes an active role in the development, implementation and administration of policies and programs designed to improve overall employee and corporate wellness.

Note : Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

There will be flexibility to work a hybrid work schedule 2 days per week.

What you'll do

Coordinates with external providers, contractors, insurers, regulatory bodies etc. to ensure that timely and appropriate treatment plans are in place and monitored for employees.

Including early intervention, diagnostic clarification, treatment programs, stay at work and return to work programs for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses as well as formal medical-related accommodations.

  • Partner with the injured or ill employee in the Ability Management process while focusing on abilities rather than disabilities.
  • Develops and administers mental health, substance use disorder treatment and continuing care programs.
  • Manages all health assessments and services.
  • Manages an active caseload and assists with the employee’s treatment or rehabilitation by supporting the business’s offer of transitional / modified work that is meaningful, assists the recovery process and can be performed safely and effectively without undue risk of re-injury and without undue risk to co-workers or property.
  • Provides expert injury management advice to various stakeholders to drive improvements in injured worker satisfaction, claims management and return to work outcomes.
  • Manages staff communication, education and support for employee wellness issues.
  • Maintains wellness policies and procedures to ensure best in class wellness guidelines are met.
  • Develops and influences the implementation of pro-active return to work and injury management strategies.
  • Advise, coach and influence management regarding all issues related to disability claims, active return to work programs, and workplace accommodations.
  • Promote and ensure the health & wellness and ability management programs are implemented effectively and within company guidelines and legal parameters.
  • Determine and communicate WorkSafeBC and health & wellness - related strategic goals and tactics to Operations and Safety colleagues.

What you'll bring

  • Degree or diploma in Nursing, Kinesiology, Integrated Disability Management, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively senior experience in ability management, health promotion and wellness, clinic rehabilitation in an industrial environment.
  • Experience supervising people and projects.
  • Experience managing budgets, developing programs and policies to support Ability Management and Return to Work, developing and implementing strategic plans for Wellness.
  • Interpersonal and relationship building skills with ability to lead and motivate people.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and the ability to operationalize those requirements.
  • Leadership skills and the ability to build a team.
  • Problem solving skills and analytical abilities.
  • Communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with limited direction and to function as a team member.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

The estimated salary for this position is $117,000 - $143,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity.

The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
