What you will be doing : Through innovative practices, Youth Community Safety Liaisons (YCSLs) mobilize youth-serving agencies, stakeholders, youth, and communities to address crime and disorder.
Through a community development lens, YCSLs empower active participants in creating unique, sustainable and positive community change.
YCSLs strive to engage with youth and bring their voice to the table regarding community safety issues, with the intention that youth feel empowered to become active members of their communities and feel a sense of community connection.
YCSLs are part of the Neighborhood Empowerment Team (NET) which is a partnership with the City of Edmonton and the Edmonton Police Service.
NET’s mission is to work together with communities to build collaborative solutions to address identified safety issues.
NET engages with diverse individuals, communities, and professionals by utilizing community development principles, approaches, and practices.
This position reports to a Supervisor of Community Initiatives at The Family Centre. Trauma-informed care approach to community engagement and development Initiate, lead, and support projects through research, surveying, engaging with youth and community agencies, collaborating with appropriate professionals, applying for grants, hosting events, and creating resources Build capacity among community members, youth, and agencies Engage with community members by attending events and sharing information about NET Engage with youth in their communities to explore barriers related to community safety and engagement Facilitate and contribute at collaborative tables Document project updates and community engagement activities Engage in a multidisciplinary team with the Edmonton Police Service and the City of Edmonton partners Support the Youth Community Safety Liaison social media account through creative engagement and resource sharing Take initiative to schedule meetings with stakeholders and manage own schedule Working Conditions : Flexible scheduled weekday shifts, including evening and weekend work Work within assigned spaces in Edmonton Police Service stations Meet with stakeholders in their communities or via virtual platforms What you will bring to the role : Degree in Community Development, Criminology, Human Ecology (or) Degree in Child & Youth Care or Social Work with experience in the field related to Community Development (or) Diploma in Community Development, Correctional Services, Policing, Leadership with related experience Ability to work in a multidisciplinary partnership with youth, community members and stakeholders Proficient oral and written communication skills Experience with leading community-based projects Knowledge of community resources Computer literacy Experience with social media platforms is an asset Background Check Process & Requirement : Enhanced Security Clearance (renewed every 5 years) Child Intervention Record Check (renewed every 3 years) Our Children Are Sacred Youth Suicide Prevention Training or ASIST Suicide Intervention Training (renewed every 3 years) Standard First Aid Level C CPR (renewed every 3 year) Awareness of Indigenous worldviews Reliable Vehicle, available for regular use and valid driver’s license Brain Story Certification Training (must be completed within the first 6 months of employment) What you can expect : Training comprehensive onboarding / orientation process which includes service specific, leading-edge training, and agency-wide core training Feedback a strong reflective supervision model that provides regular formal and informal opportunities for feedback Performance Coachin g formal and informal coaching regarding the development of personal and professional growth and development Reasonable Accommodation The Family Centre will provide reasonable accommodation when requested by a qualified applicant or employee Compensation - Our comprehensive compensation package offered to employees reflects a strong commitment to employee wellbeing and is competitive within the marketplace.
