Jackson-Triggs Estate Niagara was opened in 2001 with a vision to have a state-of-the-art facility that would facilitate the production of ultra-premium VQA wines.
Jackson-Triggs estate is a terroir driven facility that sources the majority of is fruit from its own well renowned and celebrated vineyards.
These vineyards allow us to focus on our award-winning brands such as Entourage, Grand Reserve and Le Clos Jordanne.
We are hiring 6 enthusiastic Harvest Interns for the 2024 Harvest. This position runs between September 1, 2024 through to December 1, 2024, with the potential to be extended into 2025.
Job Summary
This role is responsible for performing all cellar related activities as part of the winemaking process at harvest. This is a great opportunity to make ultra premium wines in a premium facility.
Key Responsibilities :
- Crushing and Receiving grapes- we average 800-1000 tons per harvest.
- Both hand harvested and machine harvested fruit.
- Some work on the sorting table required.
- Operating equipment on the crush pad and cellars to press grapes and clarify juice.
- Racking, transferring, and blending wine / juice.
- Additions- will be a huge task, you will gain experience with multiple types of additions for juice, must, ferments and possibly finished wines.
- You will be asked to aid in or complete inoculations with proper training and guidance from our staff.
- Exposure to wild fermentations and "Pied de Cuve" build ups.
- Management of Micro-oxygenation (MOX) working closely with the winemaking team
- Pump overs / pulse air We maintain a daily cap management sheet, we use a pulse air system for that majority of our reds, manual pump over, automatic punch-down tanks, rotating fermenters, and manual punch-downs in bins.
- Cleaning We strive to keep everything as clean as possible always. You will be trained in cleaning various sized tanks, totes, bins, crushing equipment, barrels, and floors.
- Barrel work You could be involved in barrel maintenance, sulphur, cleaning, rehydrating, filling and storing of red / white barrels.
We still manage quite a large barrel room. Could be involved in receiving / preparing new barrels for production.

Qualifications, Certifications or Designations :
- Winemaking and Viticulture related field is preferred but not essential
- Less than 1 year

Working Conditions :
- Must be able and willing to work overtime as required
- Shift work in necessary
- This position may require physical effort which entails lifting and moving up to and including 50lbs
- Able to work at heights (catwalk)
Special Conditions :
- May work in noisy areas
- Some outside work may be required, in all weather conditions
- Harvest schedule we run a split shift during the harvest, Days and Afternoons, shifts will be 8-10 hours depending on work load that day.
We do pay overtime after 44 hours
Harvest pay will depend on experience in the cellar, but we are willing to train all candidates if required
