Job Description
- Weld materials to conform to specified dimensions and standards.
- Inspect all welds to ensure that they are complete and of good quality, and that they meet the requirement of the relevant specification and drawings.
- Perform visual and dimensional checks on weld to identify non-conforming (weld length, cracks, craters ) and / or missing welds.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, welding symbols and tape measure.
- Verify main dimensions for a pre-determined quantity of joists produced (o / o dimensions, c / c holes for shoes and connections, dimensions of shoes, dimension of components, sweep, camber, tilt of shoes )
- Add or repair welds (including multi-pass welds) when inspection identifies need.
- Perform detailing (fitting and assembling) on the job and add or remove accessories to the finished product as per drawings.
- Recommend / perform corrective actions when defects are found and repair as per shop drawing and blueprints.
- Use drilling, plasma cutting, oxyacetylene, torch cutting etc.
- Lift joists with crane for inspection and placement ready for paint.
- Work with welders, tackers and painters to maintain production flow.
- Advise workplace parties of quality issues / concerns as found.
- Practice good housekeeping including 5S and time management in the performance of daily duties.
- Comply with all legislated and company Health, Safety, Environmental, Quality, and LEAN policies, procedures and Programs.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be able to produce clean, accurate welds and to pass CWB welding test(s).
- Ability to regularly push / pull / lift up to 50 pounds, ability to stand continuously, and hold a welding gun.
- One to three years’ welding experience or training in a manufacturing environment preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to communicate, read and write in English is a must.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety and operating policies, procedures and instruction.
- Ability to work safely and maintain production demands.
- Willingness to engage in training as required, and to work overtime, including weekends.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must always be worn (including but not limited to : metatarsal safety boots, safety glasses, welding helmet, welding gloves / sleeves, ear plugs and respiratory protection).
- Candidate must be an experienced Welder with CWB certification.
- Position requires the ability to identify the weld defects and any deviation from drawings in order to produce welds that meet company quality standards (CWB 47.1).
- Ability to operate crane and the ability to work at a pace established by production standards.
- Position requires flexibility to work overtime when requested.
- Willing to move to Afternoon shift if needed.

Physical Demands
The ability to stand continuously is essential with frequent walking and occasional sitting. The nature of the position will require the employee to perform a wide range of physical activities ranging from pushing and pulling, lifting and carrying heavy objects (60 100 lbs.
to climbing, crouching, kneeling, bending and handling. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
Work Environment
Required to work near moving mechanical parts and machinery. Working conditions may include being outside or inside in all environmental conditions.
Potential exposure to : fumes and airborne particulates. Potential risk of electric shock. Potential burn hazards such as : UV light radiation, open flames, sparks and other sources.
Noise levels in the work environment will require the use of appropriate hearing protection at all times. The correct usage of PPE will be required at all times.
