The Role

As our Backend Developer, you’ll be one of the first engineers to help architect, build, and optimize our backend infrastructure, using Python and Flask to create a scalable, high-performance platform.

You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate cutting-edge language models, building intelligent backend systems that leverage AI to enhance the health experiences of our users.

Your work will have a direct impact on the success of our platform, and you’ll have the freedom to innovate and problem-solve in a fast-paced, experimental environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement a robust backend architecture using Python and Flask , focused on scalability, security, and reliability.
• Develop and optimize APIs to power our mobile and web applications, with an emphasis on integrating and deploying large language models (LLMs) .
• Collaborate with the product and frontend teams to define data flows and create seamless user experiences.
• Prototype and deploy ML models, particularly language models, and manage them effectively within the backend infrastructure.
• Take a "hacker" approach to problem-solving, experimenting with novel solutions to optimize performance and functionality.
• Prioritize and implement secure coding practices, especially around health data, adhering to regulations like HIPAA.
• Research and integrate the latest advancements in AI and machine learning, staying up-to-date with industry trends.

Requirements

• 3+ years of backend development experience with a strong focus on Python and Flask .
• Demonstrated experience working with large language models (LLMs) and knowledge of the associated libraries (such as Hugging Face, OpenAI APIs, etc.).
• Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and data handling best practices.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with a "hacker mentality" that embraces experimentation and iteration.
• Background in developing secure, scalable applications in compliance with privacy regulations (HIPAA or similar).
• Knowledge of database management (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and designing data pipelines.
• Ability to work autonomously and thrive in a startup environment with evolving priorities.

Nice-to-Have

• Experience with AWS , Docker , or other cloud and container technologies.
• Experience with Cursor (or similar IDEs)
• Familiarity with MLOps and deployment practices for ML models in production environments.
• Understanding of NLP and experience with health data or healthcare-related systems.
• Prior experience in an early-stage startup or high-growth tech environment.
