South Country Co-op is hiring an Agro Driver at our Agro Centre in Cypress County, Alberta.
Reporting to the Agro Manager, the Agro Driver is responsible for delivering world-class customer service, operating semi and pup trailer and loader, meeting customers, and loading and unloading Anhydrous Ammonia (NH3) and Agro products.
The position will be responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle and its features while delivering chemical and seed, Anhydrous Ammonia and other Agro products to customers, general maintenance on trucks, filling out daily logs, completing pre-trip inspections, and reporting any discrepancies directly to the Agro Manger.
The Agro Driver will also be expected to communicate sales and promotion programs to customers, maintain a professional representation of South Country Co-op, and adhere to South Country Co-op’s safety policies.
Other responsibilities include pricing, stocking, inventory, shipping / receiving in the warehouse, and practicing good housekeeping habits.
Qualifications : Candidates must possess a valid Class 1 license with a clean driving abstract. Candidates must possess a minimum of 1 year’s driving experience (driving Class 1) and a minimum of 2-3 years experience transporting dangerous goods.
TDG and WHMIS are required. Must be able to work well unsupervised. Knowledge of Agro products and mechanical ability would be an asset.
- Ability to complete and successfully pass a pre-employment alcohol and substance test.
- Ability to complete and successfully pass a pre-employment Driver Evaluation performed by a third-party company appointed by South Country Co-op Limited.
- Must provide a clean Commercials Drivers Abstract as part of the application process.
- Ability to operate a manual transmission.
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods training certificate (training is provided)
- Experience as an NH3 Driver is preferred, however not essential.
- Required to have the ability to recognize and understand the unique properties and handling requirements of the load being hauled, as well as any special rules pertaining to the transport of the load.
- Required to have the ability to understand and recognize a variety of hoses, couplings, flanges, adapters, etc. used to load and offload the load, both on the vehicle as well as at the loading / unloading location.
- Required ability to move hazardous materials into and around non-industrial areas, such as delivering NH3, Chemical, Seed and Agro products to a residence, farm etc.
- Must have some computer skills, including Microsoft Office, and be able to read maps
- Ability to climb and to work at heights and to lift products weighing more than 55 lbs. regularly

- Ability to read maps and use of GPS with a good sense of direction
Working Conditions :
- Available to work Monday to Friday, evenings and weekends.
- Spend up to 75% of the day driving.
- Climbing (ladders) and working at heights.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions (., dry, hot, wet, cold) and within a noisy, dusty etc. environment.
- Regular lifting over 55 lbs.
- Handling Anhydrous Ammonia safely
