We are a fully delegated Indigenous Child & Family Service Agency providing programs and services to Indigenous children, youth, and families on and off reserve within Stó : lō Territory in the Fraser Valley between Yale First Nation and Surrey BC.

Communications and Events Director

Regular Full Time Position Global

POSITION SUMMARY :

Reporting to the Executive Director Staff and Community Relations, the Communications and Events Director will provide direction, leadership, guidance, and support to staff within their team;

maintain and improve existing service delivery; manage the team’s workload distribution; and ensure their staff receive adequate support, as well as any identified training and development to meet their learning and development needs.

The Communications and Events Director is responsible to work in collaboration with other teams and baskets within FVACSS and third-party partners using their experience to guide staff in achieving the goals set for each program and challenging their team to push to new heights.

The Communications and Events Director will oversee the work of multiple employees / teams that will provide services that include communications to internal and external sources, including clients, staff, care givers, communities, other partners and the Media.

Through their team they will develop and execute strategies to improve efficiency and effectiveness of communications, documentation, and record keeping.

In addition to Communications the Communications and Events Director will be responsible for overseeing the Events team as they plan, organize, support and execute events to celebrate internal and external events in a manner that is culturally appropriate for the client / audience be they Stó : lō or Láts’ú : mexw (away from home).

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED :

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Postgraduate education in Communications or a related field is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Advanced computer skills in a variety of software applications and web-based technologies including content management, to develop culturally appropriate and attractive communications materials
  • Computer literacy on Database, Microsoft Word, Excel and other computer software
  • 3 5 Years experience leading multidisciplinary teams including Communications and other areas of work
  • Experience writing concise reports tailored to various audiences
  • Experience supervising, developing and managing staff
  • Experience in event management, with a track record of successful execution would be an asset.
  • Passion for driving impactful change and making a positive impact through communication and events initiatives.
  • In-depth knowledge of writing, editing, proofreading, graphic design, off-set printing process, desktop publishing, web design, and applicable software

SKILLS & ABILITIES :

  • Knowledge and appreciation of Indigenous specifically Stó : lō cultural practices and traditions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the generational impacts of colonization and historical child welfare practices on Indigenous people.
  • Understanding the diverse audience and a knowledge of unique challenges faced by FVACFSS.
  • Successful completion of a clear Criminal Record Check.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license required.
  • Able to develop strong working relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Balancing competing priorities and working under pressure.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders and build consensus.
  • Professional commitment, flexibility, and good problem solving and dispute resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Maintain a clear differentiation between the professional and personal self.
  • Preference may be given to Indigenous candidates as per Section 41 of the Human Rights Code.
