Assistant Manager - Molding

POSITION SUMMARY :

Reporting to the Molding Manager, the Assistant Molding Manager is responsible for positively influencing adherence to Molding production best practices in all aspects of the daily running of the molding department.

The Assistant Molding Manager engages with the Shift Supervisors and Team Members daily to ensure day-to-day compliance with all Molding Production processes and procedures, to assist in follow up and resolution of daily production issues, and to establish and reinforce a learning culture.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES :

Maintain a High Level of Plant and Machine Safety :

• Together with the Shift Supervisors, the Assistant Molding Manager will ensure all Molding team members are trained and performing in a safe and efficient manner.
• Through regular and full communication with the Health and Safety Specialist, this role will ensure accident / incident investigations are carried out and documented to determine root causes, corrective actions and following-up to ensure completion.
• The incumbent will promote proactive identification and elimination of hazards and work with the Shift Supervisors to correct unsafe acts or conditions, ensuring health & safety policies are followed.

Support performance improvement actions when issues are identified.

• Through daily interaction with Team Members and Shift Supervisors, the Assistant Molding Manager will ensure appropriate procedures and Standard Work is established, documented, and consistently maintained both on the production floor and in the Molding office.
• Where follow up, corrective action or performance concerns arise, they will communicate fully with the Molding Manager or Shift Supervisor as deemed appropriate.
• The incumbent will follow up with the Shift Supervisor and / or Molding Manager on Team Member concerns or issues, to ensure timely feedback has been provided to Team Members
• Together with the Shift Supervisor this role will ensure cross-training and back-up support is adequate.
• Drive actions to improve departmental KPI’s.

Understand and support the targets for people, quality, delivery, and cost.

• The Assistant Molding Manager will regularly audit the Shop Floor to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and ensure that inspections are appropriately documented.
• The role works closely with the Shift Supervisors to establish and follow up on corrective actions when performance is off target.
• In support of SQF audit readiness, the Assistant Molding Manager will maintain a routine of regular auditing on the production floor, and following up with Shift Supervisors and Team Members to close the loop on any practices that undermines sound SQF practices.
• The incumbent will follow up on and support timely response to NCR’s and PQIs including establishing corrective action plans.
• The Assistant Molding Manager will escalate issues when an appropriate decision cannot be reached.

Report and Communicate

• The Assistant Molding Manager will attend and actively participate in daily Molding Production Meetings.
• Participate in the daily quality meeting.
• The incumbent will ensure regular and full communications sessions take place between the Shift Supervisors as well as by the Shift Supervisors on their shift, including completion and follow up on items listed on the Molding Open Issues Board’.
• The role will ensure Department preventative and predictive maintenance plans are established and known to Production scheduling.
• The Assistant Molding Manager will conduct presentations to the Molding team as needed in ad hoc or regularly scheduled meetings to encourage flow of knowledge, information, and full communication in support of Molding objectives and actions.
• Perform Layered Audits as scheduled.
• Hold daily meetings with Supervisors and Process Technicians to discuss production and other matters.

Establish practices that support a learning and continuous improvement culture.

• The incumbent will work with the relevant stakeholders to establish and maintain training materials and set up a process for continuous learning and professional development for the Molding Team Members
• The role will require demonstrated leadership and support by meaningful participation in specific CI projects and Kaizens, as well as the promotion of a continuous improvement culture by communicating, encouraging, and supporting actions identified to improve processes or procedures on the Molding production floor.
• When deemed appropriate the Assistant Molding Manager will track and manage the execution and completion of Molding specific projects.

Physical Requirements :

This job requires both office and plant exposure with considerable time spent on shop floor exposed to a noisy environment

Communication Skills : A skilled influencer with strong ability to positively impact desired behaviors. Fluent in English with good verbal and written communication skills

Additional Education / Experience / Skills : Ability to effectively coach, positively influence, and support Team Members

• Strong knowledge and experience in Injection Molding operations and maintenance is a definite asset.
