Position Summary
We are looking for an experienced Finance Manager with strong relationship building skills to provide financial expertise and leadership to support business units with all its Finance needs.
Reporting to the Director, Financial Planning and Analysis, the Manager Finance Business Unit Support will work closely with leaders of Facilities & Services Division and other assigned business portfolio, to develop a finance support model to lead and administer day-to-day finance operations and identify opportunities to enhance the overall efficiency of all financial activities and processes within the business portfolio.
Responsibilities will include : budget preparation, consolidation and analysis; new business cases development of capital projects;
review of period-end closings, forecasting and reporting variances; in addition, provide recommendations to senior management to support business plan and strategic initiatives of the college.
The incumbent will guide internal budget holders and stakeholders at all levels of the college.
Responsibilities
- Acts as a financial consultant in all matters related to the business portfolio finance and takes appropriate actions to support the activities and initiatives of the business divisions
- Provides controller-level management of strategic and ongoing financial activities of the business areas with the discretion to develop, recommend and implement strategies to assure responsible financial stewardship
- Develops, monitors, and oversees the budget process including revenue projections, business cases to support budget requests, labour and non-labour expense budgets, including operating, ancillary, capital, externally funded projects, and strategic initiatives
- Prepares and analyzes complex reports, spreadsheets, databases and informational documents to assist the decision-making process
- Ensures compliance of all financial activities with evolving GAAP / PSAB standards, College, administrative, legislative and government policies, procedures and requirements
- Participates in the formulation of goals, strategic plans, and objectives related to financial programs, practices, and services for the business to support the College's strategic plan and business plans
- Prepares formal reports on budget status, planning and forecasting, as required by College and funding agencies, development of the 6 Month Review, monthly, quarterly and year-end reconciliation of business accounts
Qualifications / Experience
- Four (4) year degree in Business, Finance or Accounting
- Professional accounting designation (CPA) is required
- Minimum seven (7) years progressive experience in a financial management capacity
- Excellent financial analysis, financial modelling, planning and forecasting techniques, as well as business process improvement
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders / external partners in a diverse working and learning environment
- Demonstrated understanding and application of Generally Accepted Account Principles (GAAP)
- Advanced working knowledge of integrated financial systems and data management software tools
- Strong communication (verbal / written) skills; ability to communicate complex and sensitive financial data with non-financial audience
- Strong customer service orientation and customer relationship management skills
- Excellent organizational, quantitative, analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to manage competing deadlines and changing priorities
- Strong understanding and commitment to the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion
