Position Summary :
The New Product Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for the transition of new products and processes from engineering to manufacturing and supply chain.
This position will work closely with multiple Product Engineering groups to define manufacturing requirements within the New Product Development process.
The NPME will manage cross functional deliverables at multiple manufacturing sites, develop schedules, track progress against these plans, and ensure new products are brought to market on time with expected quality and cost performance.
During the Implementation Phase, the successful candidate will act as the primary coordinator between functional groups and the Manufacturing & Supply Chain organization and will ensure that all stakeholder requirements are effectively communicated.
The NPME will actively participate in design review meetings and help guide development through DFx best practices. The position requires exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills.
Responsibilities : Product Development Cycle :
- Participate in early-stage product development and communicate expectations and ensure the successful capture of Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Test, Installation & Service requirements.
- Work closely with multiple Design Engineering Groups in preparing new product samples to assess fit and function, and manufacturing feasibility.
- Develop detailed cost estimates for new products based on knowledge and analysis of current processes and products.
- Provide manufacturing guidelines and direction at all phases of the new product development and ensure that all manufacturing and production concerns are addressed.
- Work with vendors to develop part and tool specifications, and participate in the tool development.
- Work with plant personnel, Design Engineering and Product Manager to establish all required information needed by ERP Data Base management regarding new product coding.
Product Implementation Cycle :
- Generate MRP List, assess tooling requirements and generate the Tooling List. Initiate CARA. Generate and organize review of Pilot Run.
- Manage new projects using the APQP multi-disciplined team process to ensure a smooth launch into volume production.
- Manage the flow of new launches and other Product Design initiated ECRs from and to the plant and the BAAN Data Base management team.
- Support Plant manufacturing engineers, supervisors and lead hands in the implementation of new products through training.
- Track tool development from budget estimates and CARA approval, through kick off and PPAP approval.
- Review ERP Data Base costing and set-up. Provide input and review installation instructions and price book information for all new products.
- Evaluate and approve new components using PPAP and first-off processes. Coordinate temporary deviation request whenever necessary and implementation of solution.
- Provide a feedback loop to Engineering and Supply Chain to capture lessons learned from product rollouts and provide recommendations for future designs and processes
Department Accountabilities :
- Generate ideas and implement Continuous Improvement projects
- Follow all ISO procedures
- Work on Special Projects as assigned
- Establish, grow and maintain relationships with all departments involved in the new product launch process.
Qualifications :
- University degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, and eligible for P.Eng license
- 10-12 years of engineering experience in a product design and manufacturing environment
- Exceptional communication, organization, leadership, decision making and time management skills
- Assertive and professional in the building of relationships
- Ability to learn, adapt and apply new systems, techniques and technologies
- Able to travel locally and internationally
- Practical experience in developing equipment, manufacturing technologies, processes
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements
- Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, understanding of MRP / ERP systems, working knowledge of SolidWorks
