Gymnastics Canada (GymCan) is the national sport governing body responsible for the governance, development, and promotion of Gymnastics in Canada.
Gymnastics Canada works closely with the twelve Provincial Federations and over clubs to provide a broad range of programs and services to meet the needs of all participants.
From athlete development to coaching and judging education, Gymnastics Canada sets the operation standards and practices for the sport in Canada.
Our mandate is to promote and provide positive and diverse gymnastics experience through the delivery of quality and safe gymnastics programing.
Based at the GymCan Rhythmic Gymnastics National Training Centre in Markham (Toronto) and working in conjunction with GymCan’s National Team Director RG and other GymCan technical staff, the Head National Team Group Coach Rhythmic Gymnastics shall be responsible for leading and executing the daily training environment and yearly training / competition plan for GymCan’s RG Group National Team program, directing the coaching and sport science support program on-site at the High Performance Training Centre and, where applicable, assisting in the development and implementation of long term athlete development programming for RG Group that will support elite level RG Group programming throughout Canada.
The Head National Team Group Coach RG will work with the national team group athletes, GymCan technical and administrative staff and the RG National Team Director in setting the direction of GymCan’s national team group program on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis.
As the lead RG Group technical expert for GymCan, the Head National Team Group Coach will work with dedicated GymCan staff in the development of a high-performance environment that can produce World Championship finalist and Olympic qualification performances for Canada into the future.
At the direction of the RG National Team Director, the Head National Team Group Coach RG may represent GymCan in dealings with Sport Canada, Own The Podium, the Coaching Association of Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee and other national and international organizations or service providers with respect to High Performance activities and programs.
As required, the Head National Team Group Coach RG shall work closely with the RG National Team Director and the RG Senior Program Coordinator to set the annual competition calendar and the required annual budget.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
National Team
- Establish a daily training high-performance environment that supports the target of World Championship finalist or better Group performances by the World Championships, and qualification for the Olympic Games.
- Provide leadership, both program specific and collectively for the development, implementation and evaluation of annual and long-term training and competition plans for the RG National Team Group.
- Provide direct coaching services for the RG National Team Group for Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cups and other identified international competitions.
- Work closely with the RG National Team Director to manage, monitor and support the dedicated sport science program and specialists affiliated with the National Team Group program as well as the professional development needs for the National Team Group Assistance Coaches.
- Assist the RG National Team Director, RG Senior Program Coordinator and the RG Program Committee in the development of criteria and procedures for training and competition team selection.
National Athlete Development Models
When requested, provide technical leadership in the implementation of the national RG high performance athlete development model talent identification system, e.
g., regional scouting, clinics, camps, and provide input and support to developing athletes and coaches in the high-performance system through visitations, clinics, camps, etc.
Coaching Development
- Assist the RG National Team Director and other technical staff in the development and implementation of a national coaching philosophy to complement the RG Long-Term Athlete Development Model as it pertains to Group development.
- Act as a resource person in matters relating to advanced coaching education programs and advanced coaching education.
- Mentor developing coaches at the request of the RG National Team Director.
Sport Science and Research (Integrated Support Team)
- Work with the RG National Team Director and RG Senior Program Coordinator to ensure that the Sport Science and Research needs of the National Team Group are met.
- Take a lead role in the implementation of appropriate athlete performance monitoring and measuring systems, in conjunction with assigned IST professionals.
- Develop and / or assist in the development of proposals for applied sport research and work closely with the IST in the design, implementation, and feedback on applied research.
- Work with the RG Senior Program Coordinator in maintaining all relevant test results of current and potential National Team Group athletes.
Administration
- Work with the RG National Team Director and other GymCan staff on team strategies that complement the development of a professional, respectful, and progressive work and training environment for all persons involved in the RG program.
- Prepare, on request of the RG National Team Director, work plans, reports and other documents as required when relevant for GymCan or external agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified candidates will have level 3 certification (Coaching Association of Canada), or an equivalent Advanced Coaching Diploma or international credentials as recognized by GymCan and the Coaching Association of Canada and must possess :
- A judging background with a comprehensive understanding of the FIG Code of Points,
- The proven ability to design, lead and execute the daily training environment and yearly training / competition plan of a National Team Group program,
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills,
- The ability to manage multiple tasks effectively,
- Demonstrated ability to work with High Performance athletes, professional gymnastics coaches, judges and other sport leaders in the development of a world-class high-performance program,
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in English,
- Appropriate legal qualifications to work in Canada, or to be able to obtain such qualifications (work visa).
This is a contract position with Gymnastics Canada that requires frequent domestic and international travel. There is an expectation of full-time residence in Toronto, Canada.
The salary is $60,, but this is negotiable pending qualification and experience.
