In this role, you will :
Responsibility 1. Plan and support
- Provide oversight to the MHPSS strategy and partnerships within Alberta Wildfires recovery operations.
- Interface with colleagues on collaboration and integration of Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), including Indigenous Peoples, in all recovery activities.
- Lead program management, and monitoring / evaluation of program activities to ensure alignment with standards and objectives.
- With national MHPSS and Recovery Services, continue supporting collaborative partnerships as defined and aligned to strategic outcomes in MHPSS supporting continued community-based recovery.
This includes the overall relationship management and monitoring of funded projects focused on mental health and psychosocial support.
Ensure MHPSS projects supported and activities delivered, are culturally appropriate / culturally safe and inclusive.
Responsibility 2. Capacity-building
- Leverage opportunities in / with impacted communities to coordinate delivery of capacity building initiatives, including but not limited to, training in psychological first aid (PFA), SKILLS and others.
- Build the capacity of all teams, including within MHPSS, through mentorship and advancing opportunities that support MHPSS subject matter knowledge acquisition and skill development.
- Support capacity building of the overall organization through participation in lessons learned and evaluation processes.
Responsibility 3. Community Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement
- With the leadership team, leverage opportunities with external agencies to increase skilled workforce at the leadership level within the program, including universities, health ministries / authorities, and other stakeholders.
- Participate and / or facilitate municipal, provincial or territorial stakeholder meetings / conferences / exercises representing MHPSS service line and promote opportunities.
Responsibility 4. Monitoring and Reporting
- Provide leadership and guidance to MHPSS partnerships colleagues to ensure partner relationships, project monitoring and reporting are developed and implemented, advising leadership of any potential risks to project implementation or reputation / relationships.
- With Grant Services, support the continuous improvement of processes and tools, contribute to the review of procedures, tools and systems and provide recommendations for improvements as needed.
- Participate and support service evaluations and make recommendations for program improvement.
Responsibility 5. People Management
- Provides strong leadership, expertise and innovation in human resource planning in the management of direct reports.
- Manages personnel to deliver on objectives and support continuous improvement of the functions including : coordination of team roles, objective setting, performance assessments, coaching, and ensures resources, processes and tools support effectiveness and accountability.
Escalates management issues as appropriate.
Establishes, builds and monitors ongoing internal client relationships ensuring effective and positive interaction and satisfaction.
What we are looking for :
- Completion of an undergraduate degree in Social Work, Nursing, Education or comparable related degree, with a minimum of 5 to 7 years of professional experience or combination of education and experience;
- Registered professional (in good standing) with a degree in social work, psychology, nursing, or other mental health related field;
a combination of education and experience may be considered for Mental Health Professionals with significant relevant experience
- Certificate in project management is considered a strong asset;
- Experience in Emergency / disaster management, program development and implementation required;
- Training in Psychological First Aid (PFA), protection and violence prevention, and psychosocial support in emergencies;
- Strong leadership, managerial skills and problem-solving skills in a complex, high-pressure environments.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Proven project management skills including attention to detail and working with tight deadlines.
- Able to demonstrate knowledge and respect of Indigenous culture and traditions, and cultural diversity.
- Experience with Indigenous populations is a strong asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication in English is essential.
- Fluency / working knowledge in an additional language is considered a strong asset.
Working conditions :
- This position will primarily require remote work or work from a home environment.
- If driving for society business; a valid driver's license is required with a satisfactory drivers’ abstract.
- Periodic travel to partner meetings or field missions may be required and this can involve working in environments that are unstable and unpredictable requiring very strict adherence to security regulations and with limited access to basic services and will require working non-traditional hours and therefore, a demonstrated ability to work in stressful and often ambiguous conditions is required.
- May require to be on-call on a rotation basis to respond to urgent and complex cases, including situations of safety, as well as adult and child protection.
