Position overview
Reporting to the Plant Finance Manager, you will play a critical role in our finance department, responsible for overseeing and managing cost accounting functions.
Your core responsibilities will be implementing and maintaining the standard cost system, monitoring inventory quantity levels and reporting on inventory, utilizing Sage 300 and Misys.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely cost analysis and reporting, as well as provide valuable insights to support the company's financial goals.
Reporting to the Plant Finance Manager, you will play a critical role in our cost management department. Your core responsibilities will be Management of the Standard cost system, Cost Variance Analysis, Operation’s Budget and forecasts, and Operation’s Monthly financial reports.
Utilizing Sage 300 and Misys Manufacturing System, you will work to ensure accurate and timely cost analysis and management reporting.
You will be working closely with the Manufacturing, Procurement and Materials Departments with regards to day to day activities and cost reporting processes.
You will assist cross-functional teams to provide valuable insights supporting the company's financial goals.
Major responsibilities
Standard cost management
- Develop and maintain the standard cost system for all products, including both locally sourced and internationally procured goods, including managing the annual budgeted standard cost cycle
- Create and maintain Sage and Misys Item Master and Set up the Bill of Material for Finished Good Items
- Regularly review and update standard costs to reflect changes in market conditions and manufacturing processes
Inventory control
- Oversee inventory valuation and reconciliation to ensure accuracy
- Monitor and maintain inventory reporting, to assist with minimizing carrying costs while ensuring uninterrupted production
- Manage the RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization system)
Cost analysis
- Analyze cost variances and deviations from standard costs, providing insights and recommendations for improvement
- Prepare cost reports and analyses for management, identifying areas for cost reduction and process optimization
Budgeting and forecasting
- Collaborate with finance, procurement, and sourcing teams to prepare and manage cost-related budgets and forecasts
- Provide accurate financial information for decision-making and financial planning
Compliance and reporting
Continuously identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in cost accounting and inventory management
Cross-functional collaboration
- Work closely with purchasing, production, and supply chain teams to ensure alignment and accuracy in cost data
- Assist Sales and Logistics teams with invoicing issues
- Collaborate with IT to optimize the use of Sage 300 and Misys in cost accounting processes
Compliance and reporting
- Prepare and submit financial reports and statements, with a focus on monthly inventory reporting and plan operating costs
- Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards and regulations
Skills and qualifications
- 7-10 years’ experience in cost accounting, including 3-5 years at the supervisory / managerial level
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent with Cost accounting major preferred
- 7-10 years’ experience with Standard cost using Sage 300 / Misys or similar standard cost and manufacturing inventory reporting system
- Experience with multi-currency financial systems
- Experience with standard costing and working in a manufacturing environment is required
- Experience upgrading, converting, and implementing new manufacturing systems
- Experience with Bin tracking and RFID automation
- Experience managing inventory from multiple physical locations, including 3PL’s in North America, Europe, and Asia
- Experience managing annual financial audit, liaising with external auditors
- Proven experience in cost accounting in a manufacturing environment, preferably in Canadian Generally Accepted
- Accounting Principles (Canadian GAAP) or the Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE)
- Strong knowledge of Bill of Materials & standard cost accounting principles and practices
- Proficiency in using Sage 300 and Misys for cost accounting purposes
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration
- Strong knowledge of internal controls
- Attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Familiarity with international procurement and managing costs in multiple currencies
- Strong execution and prioritization skills
