Position Overview The District is embarking on an ambitious plan in the years ahead to improve the quality of life for our community, with a key focus relating to the planning and delivery of sustainable infrastructure services for those that live, work, study and play here in supporting our Official Community Plan goals.
We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic leader with a passion for public service, community, engineering, transportation and municipal infrastructure to join our Engineering Infrastructure Services division as Manager, Engineering Services.
Reporting to the General Manager, Engineering Infrastructure Services, this role is responsible for leading the Engineering Infrastructure Services division in the planning and delivery of sustainable infrastructure services for the District;
directing the identification and prioritization of work related to developing sustainable engineering infrastructure and services that meet the long term needs of our community in accordance with corporate direction.
The Manager, Engineering Services will act as the Responsible Officer under the District’s Professional Practice Management Plan and be responsible for ensuring engineering services activities are undertaken in accordance with established policies, and sound professional engineering and administrative practices.
- You have a background in engineering and planning in both civil infrastructure and transportation. You have substantial knowledge of engineering practices and principles;
- considerable experience in providing guidance and recommendations that often balances competing objectives and trade-offs;
and, excellent judgement that considers long-term asset management, risk, funding, and priorities. You will oversee two teams ( Engineering, Planning and Design’ and Transportation’) and will play a key role on regionally significant initiatives.
You are an experienced team leader and a balanced negotiator with an excellent understanding of both public and private interests.
Politically astute, you understand the importance of integrating infrastructure and transportation with land use and the influence this has on outcomes for community well-being, liveability, the economy, the environment and resilience.
- You have the ability to make complex technical analysis based on data and statistics; interpret engineering plans and specifications;
- write and present clear, concise and complete reports on technical matters; act as engineer-of-record or project sponsor, if needed;
- negotiate complex issues with a variety of public and private organizations in the best interest of the District and tax payers;
and establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts. Your time management and presentation / communication skills are strong and you are able to find practical solutions to complex problems.
Qualifications You have a degree in Civil Engineering plus a minimum of ten years’ progressive municipal engineering experience including supervisory experience.
You hold a Professional Engineer designation in A valid Driver’s Licence is also required.
Details Hours of Work : 35-hour work week (Compressed work schedule available)
