Expression of interest for NTIP Mentor-CoachStart Date : September 2024Rate of Pay : $53.84 / hour + 4% vacation pay (under review) This posting is restricted to Elementary and Secondary teachers who have recently retired (between September 2022 and present) from the OCDSB.

The Leadership & Staff Development Division is seeking recently retired OCDSB teachers to serve as NTIP mentor-coaches to our NTIP teachers.

The New Teacher Induction Program (NTIP) is a Ministry mandated program that has been designed to support the growth and professional development of new teachers.

As part of the program, the District is required to provide a variety of supports including mentoring. The role of an NTIP mentor-coach is to provide non-evaluative support to enable new teachers, to improve their skills and confidence through participation in an effective professional, confidential relationship.

Together, the NTIP mentor-coach and the new teacher will determine the new teacher’s individual needs, and base meetings on those subjects most important to the mentee such as : focused planning, sharing resources and best practices, Culturally Relevant and Responsive Pedagogy (CRRP), report card writing, NTIP program assistance, support with the Teacher Performance Appraisal (TPA) process, creating welcoming classrooms, teacher moderation, equitable classroom management strategies, assessment and evaluation, strategies for work life balance and other needs as they arise.

Mentoring will be conducted in a hybrid structure, which can include both virtual and in person meetings and classroom observations.

Opportunities for release time are provided for the new teacher and the NTIP mentor-coach to meet during the school day to work on specific aspects of the new teacher’s development.

New Mentor-Coaches can expect to be matched with up to 15 mentees per school year. NTIP MENTOR COACH : CANDIDATE PROFILE Ability to foster and maintain positive and respectful relationships with students, colleagues, administrators and the greater community.

Effective teaching practices (e.g. assessment and evaluation, differentiation for all learners,creativity and innovation, student engagement, classroom management etc.

Dedicated to incorporating and enhancing equity and inclusion into their curriculum and classrooms including identifying and removing barriers and discriminatory practices.

A life-long learner with a willingness to keep up to date with curriculum and technology Strong active listening skills and effective communication and interpersonal skills Demonstrated ability to mentor, guide and coach new teachers Familiarity with OCDSB policies, procedures, programs and softwares.

Those interested in this position are required to meet the following criteria : Be a recently retired (between September 2022 and present) OCDSB Elementary or Secondary Teacher and be in receipt of their TPP pension.

Be in good standing with the OCT including staying up to date with OCT fees and mandatory training (OCT fees are reimbursed by the NTIP program for NTIP Mentor Coaches) Complete an annual offence declaration each spring.

Those who have been retired from the OCDSB for longer than 1 year, and are not engaging in OT work, will be required to submit a Police Record Check for the Vulnerable sector that was completed in the last six (6) months.

Have the ability to commit a minimum of 25 days to the program. NOTE - The work of an NTIP mentor-coach is not occasional teaching work and will therefore will not be counted towards the minimum requirement of OT worked assignments to remain on the OT List.

The 25 days is inclusive of engaging in up to 4 days of Mentor-Coaching Training for which the daily rate of pay would apply.

Have the ability to travel to in person meetings across the District.
