About the Opportunity :
The Controller is responsible for providing strategic guidance and planning for the successful delivery of financial services to the organization.
As an exceptional leader and effective team builder, the incumbent of this role will form engaging, supportive and collaborative relationships with a variety of teams, and stakeholders, both internally and externally.
They will work to ensure that quality supports are provided to staff, government funders, and vendors, by leading and supervising teams within their portfolio.
The Controller works closely with organizational leadership providing information and guidance to support effective decision-making regarding program development, implementation and evaluation.
As well as, providing education surrounding financial and accounting processes, and collaborating with leadership to explore continuous improvement initiatives, that the Finance team can incorporate to enhance programs and facilities.
Additional areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to :
- Leads the external reporting processes to ensure that all reporting obligations are met, including but not limited to, year-end financial statements, T3010, and Broader Public Sector reporting requirements.
- Oversees and manages Sage / ADP Module Systems throughout implementation, launch and integration, and will continuously support and lead transformational projects, identifying opportunities and solutions.
- Establishes and maintains internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, program budgets and expenditures, as well as managing the performance of invested assets, fund and cash flow requirements.
- Assists the Vice President of Finance in carrying out their fiduciary responsibilities including but not limited to, supporting the board’s audit and finance committee to review financial operating models and delivery, as well as assist in efforts towards financial sustainability and the identification of funding opportunities with appropriate Ministries.
- Responsible for managing and making decisions regarding insurance strategies, both property and liability insurance policies, as well as other duties as assigned.
Please note this position is based in Waterloo, travel will be required to other KidsAbility locations, as needed.
More About You :
To qualify, applicants must an undergraduate degree in an accounting related field, and have, or be enrolled in and working towards, a Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) designation, in addition to :
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a senior accounting role in a complex, professional services environment, preferably combined with organization or system-wide experience in the funding of health or social services
- Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Suite of applications
- Supervisory and / or managerial experience to support, organize and establish a high performing finance team who can meet departmental objectives, mid-range policies and operational needs
- Strong analytical, detail-oriented and organizational skills, with the ability to manage changing priorities, meet strict deadlines and have excellent follow-up
- Confidence in navigating challenging situations, effectively problem-solving to make and influence decisions using sound judgment, drawing valid conclusions, recommendations and plans of action
- Ability to work collaboratively in a changing environment, demonstrating strong and effective communication, active-listening, and interpersonal skills while fostering positive professional relationships with all levels of the organization
- High level of discretion through demonstrated ability to adhere to confidentiality standards, and exhibit superior emotional intelligence and professionalism
- An advocate and ambassador of the organization’s vision, mission and values, leading with purpose to support the strategic plan and objectives
- Demonstrated ability to delegate and accept direction working in an agile, diverse and collaborative environment
- Ability to accept, navigate, and adapt through change, positively influencing and leading others to do the same
- Dynamic ability to be self-motivated, innovative and collaborative working independently, within a team, with all levels of the organization and with the broader community
- Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle with public liability / property damage coverage
