Under the supervision of the Operations Director, the Senior Project Manager is responsible for the oversight of major projects assigned to him or her.
They plan, direct, organize, coordinate and control, alone or with project managers, the execution of one or more construction projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities include :
- Review tender documents, the estimate, to determine the scope of work including scheduling and project planning;
- Responsible for having a thorough and complete knowledge and understanding of the tender documents, drawings, specifications, addendums, and to assist the Site Superintendent in achieving the project success;
- Provide leadership and to establish and maintain effective and harmonious relationships with clients, staff, subcontractors, consultants, and workers;
- Negotiation of agreements with subcontractors, sign letters of intent after discussion with the vice president, verify agreements with subcontractors and sign them (for subcontracts valued at less than $1 million);
- In collaboration with project managers and superintendents, ensure that the work carried out meets the standards and the objectives set for quality, safety and relations in the work, quantity, deadlines and costs and take the necessary corrective action when required;
- P rovide input to help resolve problems related to a specific concern;
- Monthly verification and discussion with project managers of all cost controls under his / her supervision and reporting to the Operations Director;
- Assignment of staff to work sites, in accordance with the policies of the human resources department (salaries must be approved by the human resources director) and monitor the productivity of resources under his / her responsibility as well as operating costs;
- Ensuring customer satisfaction with a concern for safety, costs, schedule and quality of work;
- Ensuring the application of and compliance with the EBC health and safety estimate and site specific H&S programs for each project;
- Ensuring compliance with the company's QA / QC system in accordance with the appropriate ISO standard;
- P articipate in official inquiries by Government Officials according to established rules and provide projects with guidance to comply with orders;
- Follow up on ISO procedures with operational staff. Responsible for site kick-off meetings, periodic reviews, post-mortems and participation in planning reviews;
- Discussion of legal or litigation issues with the Operators Director and VP and ensuring proper documentation;
- Manage commercial and project control matters of major projects including : change management, procurement, prime contract management, cost control, earned value management, scheduling and risk management;
- Develop and enforce commercial / project controls policies, processes and procedures;
- Provide commercial and contractual advice and reports to Executives and Project Managers ;
- Lead all claims and change management with respect to clients and subcontractors;
- Performing all other tasks required for the execution of his / her mandate;
- Evaluate personnel under his / her responsibility according to company policies.
Requirements
- University Degree / Technology Diploma in Engineering, or a combination of education and industry experience;
- 10+ years’ experience in the construction industry, preferred;
- Pr evious work experience in Civil Engineering Construction, including bridges, infrastructure, tunneling, water / sewer, and / or heavy civil construction is required;
- A proven track record of project success and team leadership;
- Good knowledge of geology and geotechnical;
- Strong experience delivering large scale projects within a partnership environment;
- Strong experience with alternative delivery mode projects (Design Build, P3);
- Strong knowledge of financial management, as well as building codes and associated legislation;
- Advanced skills in management, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving are required;
- Good computer skills and previous experience with scheduling software;
- B ilingual (an asset), but proficiency in English language with excellent communication skills (written and verbal) is required.
