Ballard has an immediate opening for an Electrical Design Engineer to join the Systems Engineering Team. The successful candidate will work well with existing engineering staff, is capable of independent work, and will contribute to the development of Ballard’s fuel cell system products.
Responsibilities :
- Perform design and verification of electrical systems for fuel cell engines
- Design of HV and LV wire harnesses compliant with relevant electrical standards
- Select and source electrical components for use in motive and rail systems
- Develop component design requirements from system requirements
- Develop documentation to support customer integration
- Support Certification and compliance testing
- Troubleshooting / resolution of existing electrical components and systems
- Work with customers and sales to develop custom integration solutions
- Support Hazard Analysis through participation in DFMEA’s
Requirements :
- Must have a technical diploma or engineering degree from an Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics program
- Must have at least 5 years’ experience in an electrical engineering field
- Experience with electric vehicles, road vehicles or other mobile equipment
- Experience with Electrical Codes, Standards and compliance issues in road vehicles or rail
- Experience with power electronics such as motor drive inverters and dc / dc converters
- Ability to read Process & Instrumentation Diagrams
- Experience working with CAN communication and networks
- Troubleshooting skills with DMM and oscilloscope
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills and good listening skills
- Ability to work in a multi-functional team environment
Additional Consideration :
- Knowledge of fuel cell technology
- Experience in automotive, rail or mobile equipment design
- Experience with ECU’s or microcontrollers
- Experience with EPlan, AutoCAD or similar drafting software
- Experience with instrumentation including pressure, temperature and flow measurement devices
- Experience with functional safety standards such as ISO26262
- Experience with ISO6469-3, LV123 or other electric road vehicle safety standards
- Experience with Automotive test standards such as ISO16750
- Experience with PCB design and Altium software
