Position Overview : Reporting to the Manager, Occupational Health & Safety, Occupational Health & Safety Supervisor will be responsible for the coordination and administration of OH&S program activities and projects to support business objectives.
Leading a team of OH&S Advisors the incumbent will continuously monitor and support the improvement of OH&S performance through communication and implementation of corrective action for identified risks.
The incumbent manages the implementation of company safety programs, policies, and procedures for their assigned OpCo’s.
While partnering with OpCo leaders to ensure compliance and provide day-to-day leadership in the continued building of a strong culture of care.
Provides honest, objective feedback to management regarding achievements and opportunities of safety standards, policies, and procedures.
Position Responsibilities :
- Work with OpCo Leaders to determine safety priorities and needs across Ontario.
- Actively support preventative injury initiatives, focusing on SIF’s (Serious Injury or Fatality)
- Be visible to OpCo Leadership, coaching, teaching, mentoring.
- Be visible to OH&S Advisors, coaching, teaching, mentoring.
- Analyze Safety Culture Assessments, support development and implementation of Action Plans
- Coordinate the Ontario Materials Safety Program to meet overall company safety requirements through initiation and promotion of day-to-day safety policies and delivery of training activities for employees and management.
- Coordinate communications of occupational hazards and risks to both managers and the workforce and actively works with OpCo Leaders to minimize risks and hazards.
- Assist with the design of standards, programs, and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury.
- Work with OH&S Advisors to develop OpCo safety procedures and assist in ensuring that they are implemented and followed.
- Implement audits and inspections that validate adherence to company policy and laws and regulations that govern the health and safety of employees.
- Participate in the investigation of serious incidents and injuries and advise in the preparation of material and evidence for the organization to use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
- Advise on compliance matters and interacts with OpCo’s regarding interaction with municipal, provincial, and federal agencies as needed (MOL, WSIB etc.)
- Implement compliance process related to assessments and surveys (i.e. noise, dust, etc.)
- Provide subject matter expertise, develop practical solutions to resolve safety issues.
- Develop and deliver safety training materials; ensuring tracking system is in place.
- Prepare and maintain internal and external reports.
- Lead and support Human Performance investigations; develop and support others to develop corrective actions; monitor completion of corrective actions.
- Actively participate in the corporate safety network, leverage expertise to other OpCo’s / Regions / Divisions and help develop corporate standards, best practices, and guidance
Requirements :
- Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in with a minimum of 7-10 years of experience within a similar role.
- Sound knowledge of the large industrial manufacturing processes.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with local, provincial, and federal laws and the government compliance regulations including MOL and WSIB etc.
- Ability to be responsive and persuasive at all levels of the organization.
- Effective communication and analytical skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects / priorities.
- Strong customer focus and sense of urgency to OpCo needs.
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to coach employees and management through complex issues and make recommendations.
- Team Player who is comfortable with collaborating with cross functional teams.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
