Project Manager

Watco

Location : Edmonton

Founded in 1983, Watco is a single-source transportation and supply chain services company with locations throughout North America and Australia.

Today, Watco owns and operates a diverse network of short-line railroads, terminals, ports, and repair terminals. This amounts to a comprehensive, integrated portfolio that serves a breadth of industries and supply chain challenges through services in transportation, material handling, logistics, repair & maintenance, design, and development.

Expanding its presence in Canada, Watco is commencing a $200 million rail project in Central Alberta that will play a pivotal role in facilitating operations of a mega-project just outside of Edmonton.

In line with this venture, Watco is seeking a new Project Manager to lead the project’s execution. The project’s first phase involves the construction of rail tracks as well as a hopper car wash facility, which is expected to be operational by early 2027.

An additional second phase could carry the project through to 2029. In line with this, the Project Manager is expected to be focused on this project for at minimum three years, with the potential for a five-year commitment.

As the Project Manager, you will provide project leadership from engineering and construction, through to commissioning. The project will be financed, owned, and operated by Watco and its joint venture partner Duration Capital Partners, which will provide you with the opportunity for broad oversight, corporate support, and a strong focus on relationship management.

With the project currently in the design phase, you will work with the engineering team to ensure success before playing a key role in the selection and management of construction management partners, general contractors, and / or subcontractors as the project progresses.

Crucially, you will also manage and develop relationships with Watco’s principal stakeholder, for whom the success of the project is a top priority globally.

In addition to the ability to effectively build external relationships, you will also drive quality, safety, and efficiency across the project, with a continued focus on the project’s budget and scope.

As the ideal candidate, you are an exceptional project manager with the unique ability to positively impact projects of at least $100 million at all levels.

A proven track record of success is key across all elements of project leadership, from operational execution to administration and client relationship management.

Experience must include success in leading comparable heavy-civil projects of a similar nature and scope, ideally with experience working on rail and related infrastructure projects.

We thank all applicants for their interest in this position. Please note that we will only be in contact with those individuals moving forward with our client.
