We are currently looking for a Senior Accountant, reporting to the Team Manager, Finance. As an integral member of the MK Finance team, you will play a key role in day-to-day accounting functions and the monthly financial closing process to enable the team to provide complete and accurate financial reporting.
You will maintain and evolve our financial reporting processes. One important goal for our team is to communicate any problems you may see from the financials with the Operations team in a timely manner, to better ensure stores comply with the rules and procedures so that the POS raw data can be cleaner and more accurate.
You will foster relationships with teams across the organization at both MK and TELUS level to obtain understanding of the business, present findings, and prepare financial and management reporting.
This role is a blend of traditional full-cycle accounting duties where we leverage defined workflows and processes (which of course you will play a big role in) but also plenty of exposure into ad-hoc projects into analytics, operations, taxations, integration, and many more areas where you can make a huge impact and continually challenge yourself!
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Perform full-cycle accounting tasks; prepare month-end journal entries and accruals
- Monitor SAP Intercompany Mismatch report; investigate and adjust imbalances; communicate intercompany coding with other TELUS entities
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations; investigate, follow up on, and resolve discrepancies through discussions with Operations team and third-party payors
- Review POS raw data report; investigate and communicate reporting issues with Operations team and out-sourced development team
- Prepare quarterly store financials reporting and other management reporting; communicate store compliance issues identified from store financials with Operations team and Training team
- Contribute to the continuous development of our internal finance process; communicate any problems identified from financial reporting for actual, to better enable the team perform variance analysis and forecast / budget;
provide recommendation that can help the team improve efficiency
- Prepare annual IFRS 16 budget and quarterly variance analysis
- Assist TELUS Taxation team with sales tax filing
- Maintain work files and process documentation for all primary responsibilities; update formulas to adopt new business initiatives
- Support the development, testing, and implementing financial reporting requirements, controls, and reconciliations arising from new business initiatives, system implementations, or other business changes
- Assist in developing, updating, and documenting internal control processes and policies
- Other duties as required, including ad hoc reporting and special projects
Qualifications
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience with full cycle accounting, preferably in a mid-size organization
- Possess a university bachelor's degree in Accounting and pursuing CPA designation
- Exposure to IFRS
- Excellent time management skills and strong prioritization skills; proven ability to successfully meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; self-motivated individual who is proactive, takes initiative, and is results oriented
- Advanced proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel (e.g. nested IF statements, pivot tables, Index Match, Vlookups, etc)
- Experience with accounting systems SAP an asset
