City Experiences is seeking a Director of Marine Operations for our City Cruises Toronto operation in Toronto.

About the Opportunity :
The Director, Marine Operations is a seasoned Marine leader that will manage and lead the Marine department. This includes, vessel operations including aspects of prudent seamanship, capital improvements, systems maintenance and repairs, and financial management of the marine department.
The Director is responsible for the execution of the Port’s cruises to ensure consistently high levels of safety, quality, service, and customer satisfaction while maintaining a high level of profitability.
This position reports to the General Manager.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
- Responsible for the direction and leadership of the Marine Operations Department
- Will act as the project lead during new vessel builds, equipment upgrades, vessel maintenance and repair including major rehabs and equipment overhauls
- Is accountable to manage and oversee all capital purchasing and manage the department’s budget
- Monitors and ensures compliance with all provincial, federal and industry specific legislation and company standards set for all projects and daily operations
- Manages and develops external relationships including all authorities, regulators, local stakeholders, contractors, suppliers and consultants.
- Selects, purchases and specifies major equipment and materials to maintain a fleet of five vessels and meet regulatory requirements
- Maintains a relationship with the Transport Canada and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
- Accountable to maintain industry knowledge of best practices, new technologies and systems to improve the quality of guest experience and employee performance
- Holds all Marine Operations crew accountable to the SMS systems of the organization to implement systems, plans and control of records and documentation
- Review and recommend updates to the departmental policies, procedures and plans
- Develop and maintain the company vessel security plan in accordance with regulatory and contractual requirements
- Develop and maintain the company safety management system in accordance with regulatory and contractual requirements
- Follows all safety policies, departmental policies, and service standards
- Maintains any applicable licenses and certifications
- Completes any other duties as assigned
Requirements & Qualifications :
- Ten (10) or more years of progressively responsible experience in a marine operation, preferably within the hospitality industry
- Minimum of five years managing and leading employees
- Post-secondary education at an accredited maritime college or other institution preferred
- Minimum Master 150 Gross Tonnage, Domestic Certificate
- Minimum five (5) years of boat handling experience required
- SVMO Certificate (training provided)
- Current Marine Advanced First Aid
- Current (within previous two (2) years) Transport Canada approved medical
- Strong leadership, customer service, organizational and planning skills
- excellent interpersonal & communication skills (written, oral and listening) including conflict resolution skills
- Possess and maintain a current Ontario driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
- Ship Security Officer Certificate an asset
- Confined Space training an asset
- Fall Arrest training an asset
- Knowledge of shipboard maintenance software and Microsoft office applications an asset
- Knowledge of foreign language is helpful
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift up to 45 pounds (20 kilograms)
- Walk, stand, sit and work in all types of weather conditions for extended periods
- Continually and repeatedly perform functions indoors and outdoors
- If required, wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) ( non-slip shoes, gloves, weather appropriate dress attire, sun protection)
