About the Role
As a senior mechanical engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on a state-of-the-art medical device, owning holistically the mechanical design of the product.
You will get to work on speech generating devices, manufacturing fixtures and gauges, and other exciting products. As a senior member of the engineering team, you will also influence policies, standards
The position is a hybrid role and requires some in-office work (Liberty Village location in Toronto) and remote work. Travel up to 10%.
Responsibilities include but not limited to :
- Design and development of mechanical systems related to wearable speech generating devices, manufacturing fixtures and other projects as assigned.
- Manage the development and execution of mechanical or system reliability tests as assigned.
- Work with other engineering areas to ensure designs integrate at the system level to meet overall product requirements.
- Collaborate with internal and external engineering and scientific groups as needed to ensure an integrated design that meets the system requirements.
- Mentor other engineers as needed to build overall organizational competence in good mechanical engineering practices.
- Oversee or participate in design for manufacturing or design for assembly activities.
- Oversee or participate in cost of goods sold reduction activities.
- Oversee or participate in IQ / OQ / PQ of manufacturing fixtures / gauges.
- Participate in risk management activities related to mechanical, system and product risks.
- Perform failure modes and effects analysis on mechanical systems.
- Perform root cause analysis on identified failures or defects.
Qualifications
- BS in mechanical engineering, with 5+ years of relevant experience. Graduate studies included in relevant experience.
- Experience designing electromechanical products in cross-functional teams.
- Experience with biocompatibility testing and material selection required.
- Experience working in a regulated environment (medical, aerospace, automotive).
- Must have experience with Solid Works CAD systems.
- A working knowledge of statistical process control.
- Experience working with contract manufacturers.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex multi-disciplinary projects.
- Extensive experience plastic injection molding.
- Experience with thermoforming.
- Experience working with cross-functional software, electrical, industrial design teams.
- Experience designing class 2 medical devices.
- Experience designing mechanical products in compliance with IEC 60601 requirements.
- Experience with ISO 14971, 13485, 10993 and other relevant international standards.
- Experience designing and testing products with an ingress protection rating of at least IP22.
- Experience designing in accordance with CE scheme and associated directives.
- Experience developing and sustaining products through the entire product life cycle.
- Experience performing gauge repeatability and reproducibility.
- Experience in wearable devices considered an asset.
