Responsibilities and goals associated with the positionThe Telecommunications Operator at Inspection Public Security enforces telecommunications standards and guidelines under her or his responsibility.
The Telecommunications Operator receives, records and transmits - by telephone, two-way radio, email or telewriter - complaints and requests originating from the City's telephone switchboard, the public, and municipal employees, regarding the activities of departments, divisions and sections.
- The main responsibilities are as follows : Receive telephone calls from the public concerning street conditions, broken water mains, lighting or traffic light system failures or any other problems related to municipal services or other utilities;
- Record the types of calls, the time received and other relevant information on index cards and track the calls; take required steps to record calls automatically;
- Forward incoming calls to appropriate individuals in accordance with priorities, by radiotelephone, telephone or telewriter;
- See that all complaints are forwarded to the appropriate organizations and ensure follow-up;Monitor alarm consoles for municipal buildings and surveillance cameras and advise the appropriate persons about malfunctions and activated alarms;
- Compile data and prepare statistics about these activities;Employ, as required, various office automation devices to carry out certain job-related tasks, using appropriate programming;
- Perform all other related tasks. RequirementsHave a high school diploma;No experience in a similar position is required for this position;
- Be able to speak and write French, and to speak English;Have an excellent knowledge of computer-based, office automation and system security tools;
- Be able to work under pressure;Demonstrate diligence and patience;Have good geographical knowledge of the City and area served;
Have good analytical abilities and sound judgment. Working hours 36.8 hours per week. Rotating schedule. Possibility of shifts during days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
