The Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience at the University of Lethbridge invites applications for the position of Program Coordinator for the newly funded NSERC Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) program, TrainBioData.
This innovative program addresses the growing demand for data scientists in bio-related industries by training students in both Machine Learning (ML) and Life Sciences.
Over the next six years, the TrainBioData CREATE program will provide research-intensive training and stipends to more than 50 graduate and undergraduate students in bio-data science, preparing them for crucial roles in the Canadian economy.
Responsibilities :
The Program Coordinator will play a key role in supporting the development and implementation of the TrainBioData CREATE program.
Primary responsibilities include :
- Processing trainee applications and monitoring their progress through the program.
- Responding to inquiries from program participants.
- Maintaining the program’s website and ensuring the timely delivery of information.
- Coordinating internships and liaising with academic and industry partners across Canada and internationally.
- Assisting in organizing workshops, weekly seminars, and other program components.
- Providing administrative support, including tracking and approving expenditures according to the budget plan.
- Ensuring compliance with program requirements, including outreach and recruitment initiatives with underrepresented groups (e.
g., the Kainai Nation, Indigenous students).
Supporting the reporting requirements of NSERC.
Salary : about $50k / year (condition on budgetary approval)
Location : University of Lethbridge
Start Date : October or November 2024
Duration : One year, with potential to renew Position Qualifications Education :
A degree in Business Management / Administration (a degree in Life Sciences may be considered, if there is no suitable applicant with a Business degree).
Experience :
- At least 3-5 years of administrative experience in an office environment, ideally within an academic or research setting.
- Experience working in Life Sciences.
Skills, Abilities & Expertise :
- Knowledge of general office procedures and familiarity with university policies and procedures.
- Basic financial management skills, including budget tracking and resource allocation.
- Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience with coordinating events, projects, or academic programs is desirable.
- Familiarity with Human Resources principles and practices is considered an asset.
