Senior Project Controller

Location : Calgary

Position Overview :

JSG is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Project Controller for a long-term contract role with our client, focused on a large-scale solar energy project.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in overseeing financial and project controls to ensure the project's success from inception to completion.

This contract is expected to last 18 months.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Project Financial Management :

  • Develop and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.
  • Monitor project costs and financial performance, ensuring alignment with the approved budget.
  • Conduct regular financial analysis and provide insights to project management for informed decision-making.

2. Cost Control and Monitoring :

  • Implement cost control processes to track project expenditures.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and risks, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare and review cost reports, variance analyses, and cost forecasts.

3. Schedule Management :

  • Collaborate with project managers to develop and maintain project schedules.
  • Monitor project progress and milestones, ensuring timely completion of project phases.
  • Analyze schedule variances and implement mitigation strategies as needed.

4. Risk Management :

  • Identify and assess project risks, developing risk mitigation plans.
  • Monitor risk factors and ensure proactive measures are in place to address potential issues.
  • Report on risk status and impacts to project stakeholders.

5. Reporting and Documentation :

  • Prepare and present regular project status reports to stakeholders.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including financial records, schedules, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and contractual requirements.

6. Stakeholder Coordination :

  • Act as a liaison between project management, finance, and other project stakeholders.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among project teams.
  • Address stakeholder inquiries and provide timely updates on project financials and progress.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree or relevant certification (e.g., PMP, CMA) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in project control, financial management, or a related role, preferably within the renewable energy sector.
  • Strong proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project) and financial systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results within tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
