Position Overview :
Be part of the Kitchener children’s program team where fun and friends meet! The City of Kitchener is looking for creative, energetic leaders interested in helping us offer after-school programs for children ages 4 13.
Supported by the children services coordinator, you will help lead and participate in program activities that provide children with the opportunity to learn, grow and play through arts and crafts, sports, skateboarding, dance, or drop-in programs.
We are looking for leaders who :
- Have experience working or volunteering with school-aged children in a group setting (. camp, guides / scouts, school daycare, Sunday school, coaching) OR have demonstrated leadership skills at school or work leading a team, a group or a project.
- Are ready for a leadership role in delivering quality programs for children.
- Are enthusiastic about providing a fun experience to children.
- Are energetic, engaging and not afraid to have fun and be silly.
- Are a responsible, punctual and have a strong work ethic.
- Have good relationship-building, communication and problem-solving skills and understand what it means to be part of a team and to follow through on commitments.
- Are patient and calm under pressure when working with children.
Children’s ProgramLeader positions are available at community centresacross the city of Kitchener.

Anticipated Employment Dates :
- Training : Wednesday September 11 @ 6 : 00PM 8 : 00PM or Saturday September 14 @ 1 : 00PM 3 : 00PM. Please Note : In-person and online training is required and mandatory to complete prior to start of programs.
- Programs start the week of September 23.
Hours per week : Part-time : 0 24 hours
Hours of work : Weekdays after 3 : 00PM / weekends anywhere from 8 : 45AM 5 : 30PM depending on the shift and location.
Additional Information :
Work will include working in a variety of outdoor conditions and active play.
Responsibilities :
- Actively participates in creating a high-energy team ensuring to collaborate and communicate effectively with all team members.
- Delivers energy and enthusiasm daily to deliver fun and creative programs.
- Proudly represents the City of Kitchener by providing quality programming and customer service.
- Rolemodels positive behavior for participants (teamwork, responsibility, initiative, and sportsmanship).
- Followsprogram plans, making minor program modifications to accommodate abilities / needs of participants.
- Supervisesprogram participants at all times and ensure their inclusion and safety.
- Ensures safety and cleanliness of program area and program equipment.
- Supportsprogram participants in their efforts to participant in new activities and develop new skills.
- Uses good judgement and respond professionally to resolve problems and conflicts.
- Interacts with peers, supervisors, administration, program participants and parents using positive, clear communication.
- Assists with any emergency procedures, providing first aid as required.
- Assists Inclusion Support Workers and personal support workers to accommodate children with special needs.
- Supports senior staff to complete records and reports including attendance, accident / incident reports, safety checklist etc.
- Assists in providing direction to and monitoring activities of Building Youth Leadership Development (BYLD) volunteers.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements :
- Minimum level of education partial completion of secondary school education (or the equivalent).
- Prior experience working or volunteering with school-aged children in a group setting (minimum of 1 month).
- Minimum age requirement must be at least 15 years of age or older by the first day of employment.
- Valid CPR Level "C" and Standard First Aid Certificate.
- Ability to provide a satisfactory Police Reference Check (Vulnerable Sector) issued after August 1,2024 upon conditional offer.
- Reliable transportation to work location.Depending on the location and focus of the program, some applicants must haveknowledge of or interest in arts, sport, environmental, cultural or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education.
- Knowledge of or interest in program implementation appropriate for children ages 4 13.
- Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
