Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment Operator is part of an effective constructions team that successfully completes projects according to approved plans, specifications and applicable codes while maintaining high quality and a safe workplace.
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and effective operation of various pieces of equipment.
Responsibilities
- Operates heavy equipment safely and efficiently according to relevant legislation, policies, procedures and work plans
- Performs daily safety and maintenance checks
- Cleans heavy equipment as scheduled and / or required
- Ensures heavy equipment is safely and securely stored
- Advises the Superintendent or maintenance department of any requirements for maintenance or repair
- Participates in routine fueling and maintenance
- Practices workplace safety
- May perform other related duties as required
- Heavy Equipment operation may include but is not limited to Dozers, Graders, Backhoe Loaders, Excavators, Loaders, Skid Steer, Packers
Qualifications
- 2+ years’ experience in Heavy Equipment operation
- Must be able to interpret grade stakes, clear, grub, strip, excavate, backfill, ditch, and stockpile
- Able to cut and spread material
- Able to excavate, stockpile, backfill and load with loader
- Able to construct berms, excavate side hills, and finish side slopes
- Able to grade to final grade, finish slopes and mix soil stabilization materials with grader
- Able to perform surface and drainage maintenance
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience in a construction environment or in a similar role
- Familiar with construction terms and practices
- Effective verbal and listening communication skills
- Ability to understand and effectively execute verbal and written directions
- Adheres to company Health, Safety, & Environmental reporting and standard assessments
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
