What are the Responsibilities of the Chief Engineer?
- Oversee day to day people and operations within a 1st Class Steam Plant, operating and maintaining all plant equipment & systems
- Ensure boilers and pressure systems are in compliance with Technical Safety BC & company / industry standards
- Plan safety testing & maintenance repairs, recommend process improvements
- Troubleshoot and provide effective solutions for general repair of systems & equipment in support of production objectives
- Participate in planning meetings and play a strategic role in long-term planning in support of ongoing Reliability and Continuous Improvement
- Provide technical oversight, training, and coaching on an ongoing basis to ensure steam and environmental operators are armed with the appropriate knowledge, experience, and training to do their jobs safely
- Lead major incident investigations in relation to the steam plant and environmental systems or processes
- Maintain permits and licenses, ensure accurate record-keeping
- Recruit, hire, and train new Operators and production staff, perform performance management
- Manage and approve payroll for department team members
- Host monthly Toolbox meetings for Steam / Environmental staff
- Foster safety culture, actively participate in safety initiatives, ensure staff are up to date on policies & procedures
- Play a critical role in emergency response (must be prepared to go on site during emergencies as a first responder)
What are the Requirements for the Chief Engineer?
- MUST PRESENT A 1st CLASS POWER ENGINEERING CERTIFICATE FROM TECHNICAL SAFETY BC OR EQUIVALENT
- Minimum7 years of demonstrable experience in a plant operation environment (production, maintenance, quality, safety, environmental compliance, etc.) or similar industry
- Must present strong leadership skills and experience (min. 3 years)
- Mechanical aptitude, ability to perform basic mechanical maintenance tasks
- High regard for safety, ability to gain the support & buy-in from others on safety concepts
- Must be computer-savvy, with knowledge of Microsoft Suites
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to communicate effectively in English is critical to success in this role
