Summary
The Rogers Corporate Affairs team is looking for an experienced public policy professional to provide policy research advice, opinions and communications reporting to the Senior Director of Environmental Social and Governance (ESG), as part of the company's government advocacy and ESG efforts on a broad range of public policy issues impacting Canadians and Rogers federally, provincially and municipally.
The successful candidate will manage public policy activities for Rogers on a number of files (including but not limited to affordability, closing the digital divide, climate, jobs and the economy) and focus on building Rogers reputation as a trusted source on these topics.
Key Accountabilities
Work directly with the Senior Director, VP and the broader Corporate Affairs team and other senior Rogers representatives to anticipate, assess and comment on the impact of potential public policy direction on Rogers various business units.
Draft policy briefs to be used with internal and external audiences.
Conduct research that will assist in the development of Rogers public policy positions and public affairs strategies as they pertain to Rogers operations.
Partner with external organizations (NGOs, Universities, Think Tanks) on proprietary research related to public policy issues related to Rogers operations.
Develop and implement strategic communication (thought leadership) working in partnership with Corporate Brand and Communications.
Help position Rogers ESG work within the public policy landscape.
Monitor Rogers progress against United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Craft ESG related award submissions.
Draft key messages and briefs for senior Rogers representatives for advocacy purposes with provincial / federal government representatives and the public.
Support public engagement of the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer.
As necessary, assist the Government and Regulatory Affairs Team on other related projects.
Required Competencies
Excellent research, analytical and writing skills.
Demonstrated stakeholder management skills.
Ability to coordinate and organize internal stakeholders.
Ability to learn complex issues quickly and to simplify them for public consumption.
Knowledge of the workings of federal and provincial governments and the public policy process.
Experience developing policy from idea to implementation.
Experience working on telecommunications sector-related policy files considered an asset.
Experience writing leader communication considered an asset.
Undergraduate degree in political science, journalism or equivalent (Masters degree in public policy / administration or equivalent considered an asset).
Minimum of 5 years experience in a public policy or related field with a Canadian firm or business association or within government.
