HR Generalist
Our client is seeking an HR practitioner who will report to the HR Manager and have responsibilities spanning various HR functions, including talent acquisition, performance management, health and safety, learning and development, and onboarding / off-boarding.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Human Resources :
- Provide support and guidance to employees on HR-related matters and understand the pulse of the firm, ensuring effective communication and employee engagement.
- Support the HR Manager in implementing programs to help improve the employee experience.
- Lead the full-cycle recruitment process, including preparation of job postings, screening applicants, recommending candidates for interviews, selecting suitable candidates, conducting reference checks, and related correspondence.
- Participate in administering the performance management process, including annual performance reviews and related performance improvement programs.
- Process time-off requests for staff and track staff absences. Coordinate assistance for lawyers when staff are absent or when overflow is required.
- Maintain a bring-forward system for scheduling meetings, probationary / performance reviews, annual projects, vacation entitlements, etc.
- Conduct employee onboarding and offboarding.
- Serve as a member of the firm's Health & Safety Committee.
- Coordinate yearly HR events (e.g., Flu Vaccinations, Staff Appreciation Week).
- Participate in mid-year and year-end budget procedures (e.g., create spreadsheets, gather and input data, and make projections).
- Provide consultation and advice to managers and lawyers on a variety of employee relations and HR issues.
- Lead planning for professional development sessions for legal staff.
- Act as Payroll back-up.
Legal Talent :
- Provide support to the Manager, Legal Talent with the legal students' recruitment process, onboarding, and offboarding.
- Coordinate all documents and applications for students with the Law Society of BC.
- Assist with executing call ceremonies.
- Act as the point of contact for legal students.
- Participate in administering the performance review process and compensation reviews for all Associates.
Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree, certificate, or diploma in HR.
- Minimum 2+ years of working experience in HR.
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, policies, and procedures across Human Resources.
- Knowledge and experience with HRIS systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
- Strong problem resolution skills and the ability to effectively respond to questions and concerns from employees.
- Sound judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally via verbal and written communication.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of an organization.
- Customer-focused mindset with a high level of professionalism, employee confidentiality, and discretion.
- Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude and disposition.
- Proven ability to prioritize and manage competing demands with a high level of attention to detail and accountability.
