What qualifications are we looking for?

- Post-secondary education in Social Sciences, Human Services, Education, Social Work or Humanities;
- Experience and / or desire to work with newcomer youth;
- Experience in leading and running groups, particularly around topics such as leadership, philanthropy and job-searching skills;
- Initiative and a strong work ethic;
- Strong team-work skills as well as the ability to work independently and with low supervision;
- Critical-thinking skills;
- Administrative experience and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel;
- Reliable transportation (mileage is reimbursed);
- Current Intermediate (Standard) First Aid and CPR C certification (CPR recertified within the last 12 months); · Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search;
- Three professional references required.
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?
Duties and responsibilities include :
- Work part-time, year-round, in a dynamic program (YMAP) offering support and positive experiences for high school students;
- Independently deliver after school sessions four days each week from October to June for youth with a wide variety of English levels;
- Run or support summer programming for youth during July and August;
- Adapt curriculum into daily lesson plans to meet student needs;
- Deliver topics including : self-esteem, healthy relationships, philanthropy, using Calgary transit, resume writing, global initiatives, and cultural awareness;
- Work within a team of six YMAP Coordinators;
- Help organize special events for youth;
- Recruit participants through in-school presentations and one-on-one interviews;
- Prepare and submit monthly reports, attendance, and program impact stories;
- Support program evaluation;
- Provide drop-in and referrals for participants when needed;
- Build and maintain relationships with schools and community organizations;
- Be an ambassador for YMCA programs in the community;
- Ensure a clean and safe work environment
