Your Opportunity at SECURE Energy
SECURE Waste Services Richmond currently has an opening for a Transfer Station Labourer. The role of a Transfer Station Labourer covers a wide scope of activities.
Responsibilities include cleaning and preparing empty waste containers for re-deployment, loading & unloading supplies and waste containers on / off of various trucks and trailers, handling empty & full waste containers manually and with various small equipment, shipping & receiving of inbound and outbound loads, and other duties as identified through general operations.
Work Environment
This position entails a standard 40-hour workweek from Monday to Friday, with occasional on-call duties. This role may require flexibility in shifts, extended hours, weekend work, and occasional travel as dictated by business needs.
Candidates must be prepared to work in adverse weather conditions and challenging work environments.
A Day in The Life
- Assist in creating and maintaining a clean and organized facility.
- Monitor available supplies and identify which containers to clean & prep as required.
- Ensure all required documents adhere to legal requirements as well as maintain compliance within SECURE guidelines.
- Safe operation and preventative maintenance of small equipment including, but not limited to, forklifts, pallet jacks, and drum clamps.
- Load supplies and empty waste containers onto SECURE trucks & trailers.
- Unload supplies from delivery trucks & trailers, manually and by use of equipment.
- Offload inbound waste containers from various trucks & trailers.
- Verify / complete documentation and sign off as required for inbound / outbound supplies and waste.
- Repack waste under instruction and supervision of a Facility Technician.
- Process waste as identified & instructed by a Facility Technician.
- Actively participate in tracking all waste containers within the facility.
- Actively participate in safety meetings and daily tailgate meetings.
- Abide by SECURE’s Occupational Health and Safety Program.
- Provide general labour services as required in the Transfer Station, Sludge Facility, and Water Plant.
Skills, Experience, & Qualifications
- Strong work ethic and willingness to persevere through difficult weather conditions, challenging work site environments, and long demanding workdays.
- Physically fit and able to perform physical tasks daily including lifting, moving containers and other heavy materials, along with the ability to spend a major portion of each day on your feet.
- Good time management skills and ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Competent at completing documents daily including waste manifests and bills of lading.
- Previous experience in a related work environment where TDG or WHMIS is an essential part of the job is an asset.
- Experience operating a forklift and / or other small equipment in a safe and efficient manner would be considered an asset.
- Must be proficient in English (reading / writing / speaking) including some technical terminology.

- Good computer skills and efficient at using MS Office.
- Post-Secondary Science education related to Chemistry, Biology or Environmental Studies would be an asset.
