SUMMARY OF THE ROLE
Reporting to the Director, Development, the Manager, Software Development manages a team of software developers in one or more aspects of the process : architecture, design, programming, testing, project management or integration.
He / she ensures the proper management of the activities of his / her team members in agile mode, their versatility, and the achievement of the group's objectives.
In addition, he / she actively participates in the decision-making process of the development department's vice-presidency through his / her collaboration and exchanges with his / her director and colleagues.
Responsibilities
In addition, your responsibilities will include :
People management :
- Assess staffing needs, hire to replace or reassign individuals as needed with the goal of creating effective teams;
- Participate in setting and achieving goals;
- Manage team performance and implement performance improvement plans for low performers;
- Provide ongoing, timely feedback to team members;
- Resolve interpersonal issues, assist in conflict resolution;
- Assist employees in their professional development, act as a coach / mentor to continuously improve performance and satisfaction of team members;
- Guide employees on a daily basis;
- Create an agile, mutually respectful environment where individuals are confident, secure and able to innovate;
- Remove blockers to individual and team performance;
- Provide ongoing and timely communication regarding departmental issues;
- Establish quick and effective onboarding plans for new employees.
Project and Process Management :
- Develop goals and plans for the team and report progress;
- Provide estimates for planned work;
- Well versed in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology in an Agile, Scrum / Kanban environment;
- Ensure all QA team members understand and execute their responsibilities;
- Guide employees in the creation of specific deliverables (e.g. functional specifications, UI designs, design notes, code reviews, etc...).
Technical Leadership :
- Develop a broad understanding of LGI products with an emphasis on products that interact with products for which primary responsibility rests;
- Help shape the product vision and roadmap;
- Work with product managers to understand product requirements;
- Lead technical teams in their efforts to develop requirements based specifications and designs;
- Collaborate with technical support to evaluate customer issues and determine the best course of action;
- Work as a member of the broader management team to improve department processes and performance;
- Foster productive inter-departmental relationships;
- Maintain current knowledge of appropriate technologies.
- Knowledge of the following technologies are assets : Object oriented languages.Design patternC#, .net core, JavaScript, HTML 5, Vue.
js. React, Angular...Database and Microsoft BI solutionBI chainGIT, TFS, JIRA, Confluence
Team building :
- Coach team members and help them grow professionally and personally;
- Guide the team on design and implementation techniques;
- Increase the team's productivity and ability to develop through scheduled training and mentoring;
- Help the team break down complex problems into a simpler set of problems and help evaluate design alternatives;
- Maintain high team morale through mentoring, task rotations, workload balance;
- Contribute to and enhance teamwork with other departments;
- Improve team visibility into company goals, market and product directions;
- Communicate product vision and rationale for priority changes.
Qualifications
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Bachelor's degree in software engineering or equivalent.
- 5 to 7 years experience in software engineering;
- 3 years experience in team management;
- Working knowledge of software engineering methodology and practice (an asset);
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;
- Proficiency in common software development tools;
- Results orientation;
- Customer orientation;
- Ability to deal with ambiguity;
- Excellent people management skills;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- This position must be bilingual as the candidate will be responsible for working with documentation in both French and English and communicating, orally and in writing, with both French-speaking and English-speaking partners / clients / suppliers / colleagues.
