Title : Customs Clearance Agent
Reports to : Customs Manager
Based at : Mucci Pac Ltd., Kingsville, ON
Type of Employment : Full-Time, permanent, 5-6 days a week; and some additional hours which may include Saturdays, depending on workload and priorities.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities :
- Aware of export and import restrictions, tariff systems and other custom related matters.
- Elaborate import-export forms and documents on behalf of Mucci International following customs procedures, laws and regulations.
- Verifying and processing customs documentation for immediate release.
- Ensure all commercial invoices, and other customs documentation related to the timely and accurate movement of produce shipments into the USA is completed.
- Sign certificate of origin for commodities such as Peppers / Tomatoes on behalf of Mucci International.
- Ensure all commercial invoices, and other customs documentation related to the shipping of samples and dry goods into the USA and into Canada is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Organize and monitor transportation of imported goods.
- Process ACE and ACI manifest for outbound and inbound shipments.
- Communicate priority updates on shipments internally to staff
- Communicate FDA updates internally to staff.
- Control and document trailer seal distribution.
- Process internal pick tickets upon completion by shippers.
- Process C-TPAT documentation
- Verify and calculate duty and tax rates on commodities for Mucci clearances.
- Provide drivers with B.O.L., permits, origin sheets, seals, bio terrorism (where applicable), and customs paper work; all pertaining to what they are carrying.
- Could represent Mucci on dealings with government officials.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Minimum High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1 to 2 years of customs experience.
- Experience with truck freight.
- Strong knowledge of the customs tariff, regulations, and customs act.
- Must be familiar with freight forwarding, TMS, LTL and cross border logistics.
- Recognize and address problems and issues.
- Recognize other government agency involvement, and distribute documents accordingly, such as TSCA, FDA, EPA, Textile declarations, etc.
- Recognize and apply duty reduction programs such as NAFTA or GSP.
- CCS designation or enrolled in an asset.
- Ability to work under pressure.
Physical Abilities :
- Must be able to sit, stand, and / or walk for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and / or legs.
- Must be able to lift material regularly up to 14 kg / 30 lbs; and occasionally up to 23 kg / 50lbs
- Must be able to climb stairs and stand on feet for an extended period of time.
- Must be able to work in a temperature-controlled environment of approximately 13 C / 55 F.
