What- The Role :
The contract Accountant position will play a key role in establishing and executing accounting workflows in a small and growing biotech company.
Reporting to the consulting Director of Finance, this position will perform accounting functions required to maintain the general ledger in compliance with GAAP and company policy and procedure.
The incumbent must have the ability to problem solve, evaluate processes and procedures to develop, recommend, and implement procedural and system changes to increase accuracy and efficiencies.
- Responsible for the accounting functions associated with general ledger and sub-ledger maintenance, including account reconciliations, journal entries and transactional analysis.
- Assist with quarterly review, and tax compliance, including preparation of schedules as assigned.
- Support system launch / enhancement projects.
- Prepare routine and ad hoc reports.
- Support special project work as needed.
- Contribute to and participate in the development and maintenance of a positive, team-focused company culture.
- Various other related tasks as requested based on business needs.
Who the Candidate :
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance or related field
- Minimum 2 years of directly related accounting experience
- Proficiency in Great Plains accounting software , including experience using GP in a corporate environment
- High proficiency in Excel, particularly within using functions like pivot tables and vlookup.
- Experience with general ledger functions and month-end / year-end close process
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Knowledge of general accounting procedures and solid understanding of GAAP.
- Ability to communicate effectively within the finance team as well as with a broader team of scientific professionals and leaders.
Preferred :
- Experience working in biotech or other life sciences environment is an asset.
- CPA designation preferred.
How much :
$40-45 / hr + 4% vacation pay.
Where :
Vancouver, flexibility for fully remote opportunity depending on candidate’s location.
