As a usability engineering specialist, you will work with a multi-disciplinary team of stakeholders to deliver compelling products within the standards for medical devices.
A successful candidate will partner with UX specialists, product managers, risk management, and quality management worldwide to enable the successful development and releases of complex software products across the spectrum of oncology care.
This role will require the successful candidate to reside in Nova Scotia with less than 10% travel requirement.
Your tasks and responsibilities
- You will be responsible for the realization of usability engineering activities and documentation in collaboration with stakeholders at the interfaces to quality, risk management and validation.
- You will integrate human factors knowledge into the product development cycle, and incorporate subject matter expertise and user feedback into the design process to ensure safety and overall performance.
- You will conduct usability assessments and testing as required, and present findings to stakeholders to inform next steps.
- You will assess and recommend the required level of usability engineering support, based on project scope and other factors.
- You will be responsible for ensuring that we engage and compensate external clinical experts in adherence to our quality and compliance standards.
Executing within the medical environment constraints
- Lead the usability engineering activities for your project, according to our internal work instruction.
- Ensure all documentation complies with IEC 62366-1 : 2015.
- Represent usability engineering in audits
Collaborating to learn and grow
- Partner with peers to understand and apply the UX process, to ensure UX is always embedded in key stages of the overall development process.
- Actively engage with various stakeholders to continually evolve our methods and processes.
- Act as an internal usability engineering SME, educating and supporting peers to grow the team’s overall competence. Educate other experts from the UX department and involve stakeholders.
- Develop and improve our tools, templates, and work instructions.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Human Factors / Ergonomics, Engineering (specializing in HFE), HCI, Psychology or related fields.
- 5+ years of experience applying human factors, ergonomics, usability engineering, or HCI standards in product design.
- Experience working on complex, enterprise products and ecosystems, in regulated industries is an asset.
- Knowledge of agile software development methods is desired.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Familiarity with the requirements of applicable usability engineering standards for medical devices (IEC 62366-1) is an asset.
