We are looking for a Geospatial Full Stack Engineer (React) to support our Ocean, Coastal and River Engineering (OCRE) Research Centre in Ottawa (ON).
NRC Ocean, Coastal and River Engineering (OCRE) supports a broad cross-section of industry sectors by developing creative and practical solutions to engineering challenges in rivers, lakes, and marine environments.
We provide expertise and tools to identify, adapt, and integrate advanced solutions into systems that improve the performance and safety of ocean, coastal, and marine operations, meet the challenges of climate change, and protect infrastructure, property and people from severe weather events and other environmental risks.
Reporting to the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Team Lead, the Web Developer creates and maintains web tools and services to advance OCRE's research capabilities and to meet the needs of research and commercial projects.
The ideal candidate for this position would possess the skills required to amplify OCRE’s research impacts through developing efficient and accessible online tools.
This ideal candidate would embrace and lead the adoption of the latest web technologies, cloud service providers and spatiotemporal big data analytical / visualization libraries to support a variety of projects, such as :
- Development of data-intensive web platforms to publish / share data, maps, dashboards, run simulations (), integrate ML-based and statistical big data analytics and store large datasets.
- Development of custom geospatial web applications, dashboards and tools to share specific scientific knowledge or datasets with the general population.
- Support researchers to continuously discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies (script, tools, process, AI & ML, apis) to maximize research efficiency related to climate change resilience and adaptation of coastal infrastructure and other exciting research programs at OCRE.

Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Equivalency of experience and education may be considered for candidates with other Bachelor (technical) degrees.

Experience
- Significant experience developing and designing architecture for Single Page Application (SPA) using React;
- Significant experience building and maintaining user interface components using React component libraries (, Antd, MUI, Styled-components);
- Significant experience in building web application using mapping libraries (GIS) and charting librairies like Leaflet, Mapbox GL JS, OpenLayers, CesiumJS, , , Plotly, Echarts, etc.
- Experience building serverless applications using AWS cloud-based services, such as AWS Lambda, AWS S3, AWS API Gateway, AWS DynamoDB, etc.
- Experience with source control system Git, continuous integration tools, ansible or other deployment automation tools
- Experience using Python, virtual environments and data science packages (, scipy, pandas, xarray, dash) to read, manipulate and analyse large temporal and spatial datasets will be considered an asset
- Experience with developing web API using HTTPS and REST protocols will be considered an asset
- Experience with composing and deploying Docker containers and images will be considered an asset

Compensation
Salary under review.
From $89,548 to $112,660 per annum.
An incumbent occupying a position within the CS Group is currently entitled to receive a terminable allowance of $212 per month.
