Reporting to the PHSA Professional Practice Director, this Professional Practice Consultant role will develop, implement, and evaluate procedures and methods to improve medication safety at BC Cancer and BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services.

  • Influence Decision-Making : Liaise with clinicians and leaders, engage with key stakeholders, and represent PHSA's professional practice contributions in high-level decision-making forums.

What you’ll do

In collaboration with discipline leaders, ensures professional standards and regulation, practice guidelines and code of ethics for all assigned professions are achieved.

Provides professional practice input and decision making to clinical information system design and implementation particularly as it relates to scope, policy and professional standards within the inter-professional clinical teams in PHSA.

Facilitates education, policy and systems level discussion regarding professional regulation and standards across PHSA and provincially.

Provides leadership in creating, articulating, innovating and sustaining an organization wide vision for inter-professional collaborative practice that emphasizes highest quality, family centered care.

Supports strong inter-professional collaboration through the development of structures, processes and mechanisms that support positive patient outcomes.

Utilizes and models effective change management strategies to achieve systems level transformation.

Participates in policy and procedure development, including those related to clinical informatics, consults and / or participates in system change processes for implementation and evaluation of information systems in practice settings.

Participates in design of data collection tools for practice decision- making and record keeping. Participates in determining the impact of clinical information systems on the roles of the inter-professional team to improve the use of informatics within clinical practice and encourages professionals to develop comfort and competency in technology use in practice.

Supports organizational strategy deployment, ensuring that professional practice priorities are aligned with PHSA and provincial strategic priorities.

Tracks, analyzes and reports progress in relation to designated performance indicators.

Provides leadership for a wide range of projects designed to address PHSA-wide operational goals and vision. In collaboration with PHSA agencies and programs, plans and implements complex projects and initiatives aimed at improving : inter-professional collaborative practice, new technology integration, innovative practice approaches and models of care to enhance patient outcomes.

Integrates regulatory or contractual policies and agreements. Directs and supervises the work of contractors and project teams.

Assists with operating and capital budget development and develops and manages budgets and contractors related to assigned projects.

Engages in consultation with professional disciplines at all levels of the organization and beyond the Health Authority to ensure that planned practices are designed to support the maintenance or enhancement of clinical care delivery.

Provides systems leadership for effective profession-specific and inter-professional participation by PHSA in advancing practice and / or addressing professional practice issues, including for transition and support of clinical information systems.

Represents the PHSA professional practice portfolio in decision making forums as assigned including internal, external and / or provincial forums for : scope / regulation, education, research, strategic planning, quality and other defined health authority level initiatives.

Remains current with emerging trends in patient care and interprofessional collaborative practice. Develops and maintains professional contacts and networks to facilitate the appropriate disposition of requests for information and support for projects from appropriate disciplines across PHSA, provincially, nationally and internationally.

Advises and makes recommendations to the Chief Nursing Officer regarding trends and opportunities to advance discipline specific and inter-professional collaborative practice or maintain sustainability of the professional workforce.

Works closely with the Departments of Learning and Development, Quality, Safety & Risk Management, Academic Planning, Clinical Informatics, clinical programs and other groups on special projects to address clinical practice issues, educational needs and retention strategies.

Leads and mentors inter-professional dialogue and enhances practice scholarship within and across professional groups.

Cultivates new opportunities for clinically based health services research, professional and interprofessional presentations and publications in collaboration with agency partners.

Participates in quality management initiatives related to patient and health professional data in practice.

What you bring

Qualifications

A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in a Health Sciences Discipline or related field, plus five (5) years of recent, related experience including two (2) years leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Informatics training / certification an asset. Current practising registration with own discipline professional regulatory body.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in facilitation of inter-professional collaborative practice. Current knowledge of regulatory bodies and the Health Professions Act and knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.

Comprehensive knowledge of PHSA mission, vision, values, strategic directions and goals. Knowledge of research process and methodology.

Well-developed project planning and management skills. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work, including the ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.

Demonstrated ability to lead and work collaboratively as a member of an inter-professional team and ability to function as an effective leader, coach, mentor and facilitator.

Demonstrated ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, and to deal effectively with co-workers, physicians, other health care professionals, clients and their families, and external agencies.

Ability to work with little direction and in ambiguous and changing environments. Ability to manage a complex workload independently.

Ability to work with emerging technologies. Demonstrated experience in : clinical information system development and implementation;

evaluation; and leadership. Commitment to continuous learning and to participate in and support the learning of others. Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have : Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).

Salary Range : $106,026 - $152,413 / year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan.

Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
