Purpose Statement
The job of Bus Driver Trainer (JC803) is done for the purpose / s of providing classroom instruction and behind the wheel training of applicants and bus drivers;
addressing school bus regulations and safety procedures; identifying training requirements; and maintaining required documentation for audit in compliance with state certification and district, state, and federal requirements.
This job is distinguished from similar jobs by the following characteristics : this is considered to be a "safety-sensitive" position.
This job reports to the Director-Transportation / Assistant Director designee
Essential Functions
Assesses driving performance of bus drivers (e.g. checks drivers' usage of vehicle equipment, handling of on-the-road situations, interactions with students, etc.
for the purpose of ensuring the safe and proper operations of school bus.
- Attends meetings, trainings, etc. for the purpose of maintaining skills and meeting requirements of school bus driver trainer.
- Conducts regular safety meetings (e.g. emergency evacuation drills, etc.) for the purpose of informing bus drivers of changes in laws, regulations, and procedures while ensuring efficiency of procedures and compliance with mandated requirements.
- Coordinates training (e.g. bus driver training programs, safety workshops / programs, etc.) for the purpose of delivering services in conformance with established guidelines.
- Develops and implements safety-related programs, safety workshops, and information systems for the purpose of implementing effective systems and / or procedures.
- Maintains strict (or complete) confidentiality on personnel and student issues (e.g. personnel records, medical records, surveillance videos and images, student data, confidential communication, etc.
for the purpose of protecting personal information for staff and students.
- Maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents, files and records (e.g. bus drivers, training, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing reliable information, and complying with District, state and federal requirements.
- Plans and teaches bus driver training programs for the purpose of ensuring compliance with state law.
- Plans organizes and conducts emergency evacuation drills for the purpose of ensuring efficiency of procedures and complying with mandated requirements.
- Provides classroom instruction and / or behind-the-wheel training for the purpose of providing instruction to bus drivers and applicants and / or addressing school bus regulations / safety procedures.
- Reviews pertinent data for the purpose of keeping current on all state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to school buses and drivers.
- Serves as a liaison with the Wyoming Highway Patrol and the DMV for the purpose of obtaining current information and regulations regarding bus driver requirements and safety.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Education : High school graduation or GED
Certificates & Licensure :
- Defensive driving certification
- 3rd party tester certification
- CDL with bus, S & P, and air brake endorsements
